I'm trying to get sound from my PC into my stereo receiver but not quite sure how to do it.

My stereo only has RCA jacks. My sound card is a CompUSA 32bit 5.1 surround card. It has three outputs.

F-Out - output to speakers, earphones or the audio-in of your home stereo reciever

R-Out - connects to the rear speakers while in four channel speaker mode

Cen/Sub - connects to the center speaker and subwoofer while in 5.1 mode.

Ultimately, my question boils down to how I can get the Front/Read/Center-Sub arrangemnt into Audio L-R of my receiver.

I don't get the impression this is just a cabling issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

If your receiver has 5.1 inputs (would be a collection of 6 plugs) then if you got three 3.5 mm headphone stereo jacks to 2 x RCA plugs - you could plug the f-Out to the front left right on the receiver, R-Out to the rear left/right on the receiver, and the cen/sub to the center/sub woofer on the receiver.

But depending on the quality of your receiver, would you want your approx $50 sound card doing all of the 5.1 decoding over you say $500 receiver??

If it is possible to run a digital coax or optical toslink cable to your receiver ( you may need to buy a bracket for you motherboard/soundcard or some special cable).

Something to think about....

well if it only has L-R inputs, then you cant have surround sound from your PC. assuming that you only have L-R inputs on the receiver, the connection that you want to make is from the "F-out" jack on your sound card to the L-R jacks of your receiver, using a standard 1/8" to RCA converter/cable. eg. http://www.monoprice.com/products/produc...t=2&style=
or http://www.monoprice.com/products/produc...t=2&style=

EDIT: yeah, what psycik said about using a digital cable, and connecting 5.1 inputs

If you amp has only a left and right RCA thejn that's how you have to connect it, with one left and right from the computer. You should be able to check your sound card settings in the Control Panel and set it to only use the first pair of audio out, (probably the second pair will revert to line in and third to mic, I think)

That means that there's only stereo leaving your computer and received by the amp...

UNLESS your amp handles Prologic. If it does, and your computer sends out the prologic encoded stereo on the one pair of RCA, then you'll get surround (4.0) sound...

In order to get your computer to start outputting Prologic encloded stereo, follow this thread...
