so I got to playing around with codecs in my system. I uninstalled everything I could find divx, xvid, mpeg2 stuff. Then I looked through the system with DXMAN and codec Sniper + removed all of the codecs that were reported as bad.

The good news:
When I re-installed purevideo I now have perfect playback on HDTV content that was previosly recorded (instead of jerky playback as b4)

The bad news:
I get error "object reference not set to an instance of an object" when trying to play live TV. On my clients i get "No TV tuners are available to watch the requested channel. You can choose to watch one of the currently recording programs" but the only option it gives me is "Don't watch TV"

I tried to uninstall/reinstall GBPVR - I even killed the entire directory structure when I did so. I also ran a repair on .net 2. All to get me nothing! Attaching logs as they seem to help.

edit: I forgot to say please + thanks in advance - where are my manners?

You may have inadvertently popped some of the filters that GB-PVR uses internally. Try doing a "Re-register Filters" from the Start menu and see if that has any effect.

If you can play MPEG-2 flawlessly I'll bet it is one of the precursor filters. Have you tried to load lastgraph.grf into the GraphEdit tool? (Google that one, it can be downloaded from shareware sites.)

It looks like an import Microsoft filter is now missing (MPEG-2 Sections and Tables).

looks as though the files Sub pointed out are stuff related to directx... i'm going to download and re-install directx to see if it fixes my problem... thanks!

the re-install for directx failed, so I had to play around for a long while fixing problems as reported by dxdiag. Now that those are resolved, live TV works now too... HD actually looks great now.

Now I just have to play on my laptop to see if I'm having the same issues there.

Thaks again - Joel
