Hello to all;
I've been reading about the gb-pvr software for some time now and I'm about ready to take the next step. Purchase a capture card.
But of course I have some questions.
My house had video cable running from a central point to all the rooms I currently have TV's in. In addition to that I have DirecTV in two of the rooms. My long range goal would be to move the two DirecTV boxes into the room that the cables end up in and use GB-PVR to control them.
So my question is Can I have two video out and two capture cards in one box and use my existing cable system? And would the Firefly remote be usable for both TV's? (But I suspect I would need to buy two).

Thanks for your help in advance and I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes on.

you would probably want to have two separate computers, one a server, one a client. OR you could just have the sever and a media MVP

Thanks Ted for your input. Having two computers but using the media MVP would have been my next option. Luckly I have cat 5 at two of the three TV locations.

you only need one computer if you are using the MVP (although a client is much more versatile), and there are wireless versions of the MVP

oh and I didnt say it in my first post, Welcome to the community, just post any questions you have in the requisite forum.

One thing to bare(sp?) in mind is that you will need ir blasters in order to control the two set top boxes for DirecTV (or am I lying? are those the boxes that can be controlled by serial cable? look into that). And in such case you need to be able to figure out how to control them only one at a time, so you don't change channels on both of them at the same time... not sure how you do this... maybe someone on the board has some tips.

There's an option in the STB's menu to change the IR config... In simple terms, you put one on setting #1 and the other on setting #2 and don't have to worry about each of them interpretting signals meant for the other box.
