I've been using gbpvr for about a year now so not a complete novice -- I'm just not a sophisticated user. I recently got fed up with my cable company jacking up the rates and downgraded to "limited cable". This means that zap2it is continuing to give me listings for specific channels that have now been blocked.
My confusion starts in config, where there are channel listings BOTH in the Capture Sources -> Edit Recording Source area AND in the Channels Tab. I looked on the wiki and on the forum and I get bits & pieces of the answers but not enough to truly understand the inter-relationship of these two sets of menus.
Questions about the Capture Sources -> Edit Recording Source:
a) When would you uncheck the "Enabled" box for a specific channel?
b) When would you highlight the channel and then hit the Remove button?
c) All my changes made here seem to get undone if I empty/reload the EPG... is this expected?
Questions about the Channels Tab:
a) When would you uncheck the "Favourites" box for a specific channel?
b) When would you hit the button "Remove unreferenced channels" and what is the effect?
After fumbling around trying different combinations, I was finally able to get what I was after... limiting the number of channels in the EPG to what my limited cable service is now offering.
