Hi ujb,

Sometimes I'd like to send a friend of mine, something I've recorded or something in my music library or something in my video library. But to do this I'd like to send them just a url of a video/track and allow them to download it (maybe stream it - but that gets harder) - without giving them access to all of my libraries and recording schedules.

Do you think it might be possible to create a way of allowing anonymous/basic authenticated (or no authentication) access to one particular video/track so that they could play it/download it over the internet. And while doing so stop them from accessing anything else.

Actually I think you can now safely do this. With the addition of the RSS feeds the player page has been moved to the public folder wich is not protected.

Bring up you list of recordings and copy the link show in the stream, play or download option (for your friend to use it you will have had to have accessed your site with your external dns).

I believe if you give that link to anyone it will either download the file, start to play the file (send the file like a stream but not transcoded to a manageable level or if you copied the stream link (assuming you have VLC installed and streaming configured in EWA) the link should launch the player.

Give it a try and let me know.

UJB could probably answer this better, but the EWA already provides a URL for each show that can be used to download recordings. I understand that the download page is in the "public" folder and accessible without authentication. Now all you have to do is find a way to get that link and e-mail it. If you use the new RSS feature, the link is fairly easy to grab.

Edit: UJB posted while I was editing mine. Smile

see the above post....you are correct.

To get the link just put your mouse over the link in manage recordings and right-click and select copy link location.....then past it wherever you want to....
