I know back 2 back recordings are possible even with paddings without using more than 1 tuner since GBPVR overrides the padding and moves on to create the next recording.

I wish that it could detect if an available tuner is present and prioritizing the additional available tuner and transfer the next recording to that tuner without overriding the 1st recording.

If the prior is not possible I also wish that padding override be done with the pre-padding of the second recording instead of the post-padding of the first recording. i have had several recordings that have the last portion of the show recorded on the second recording. I think people wouldn't mind losing a portion of the start as opposed to losing the climax and ending.

Thats actually what it tries to do at recording time, assuming you have thed default <TryToHonourPaddingIfPossible>true</TryToHonourPaddingIfPossible> setting in config.xml

Will have to check that one out, how about the next request about cutting the pre-padding of the next recording instead of cutting the post-padding of the first recording

Personally I don't like to miss either the begining or ending, though I will admit, missing the climax of a 'whodunit' is not fun.

Whenever I have back 2 back recordings on the same tuner, and the networks aren't actually on time, some of the first show is attached to the second show, or sometimes the other way around.

When I was playing with writing a program that would cut the first minute of the second show, and appending it to the end of the first, (and/or vice versa) I noticed that a couple of seconds were lost as GB-PVR stopped recording one show and started recording another. It killed show opener jokes and stuff, and so I stopped working on the project...

I doubt if you (@sub) would want to do this, but it seems it would be better for certain back 2 back recordings, (where networks really don't care about being punctual) to let both shows be recorded into one recording, and later split them with a Manual cutpoint, or something...

I know that this would essentially take GB-PVR back a step as it would seem similar to Video tape. And yet, by adding a manual cut, it would be far easier than getting out the old vhs splice kit...

As I write this, and in spite of losing those first jokes, I think I will be resurrecting the back2back project...

Nah, thats not something I'd want to do. Remember, these back to back recordings are often on different channels, so this wouldnt help.

If people are having problems with missing parts of shows because the tuner needed to switch to do a some other recording, they should really look at getting another tuner. Getting padding for both recordings is much nicer.

I have two in one machine, and in Primetime, there are quite a few shows I'd like to record that occur at the same time...

I'll have two half hour shows, same channel, opposing a 1 hour show on another channel and tuner... I can't see getting another tuner just for that half hour. And besides, My PVR only has the two PCI slots, and I've already tried the PVR500, and that experience sucked...

I know where you're coming from. I'll look into writing my Back2Back program... (Just, sqlite3 database queries in VB6 really suck... )

I guess it's just me, but most of my half hour shows follow each other on the same channel...

Just a thought, how about splitting the paddings by dividing into 2 the greater amount of padding.
ie.
First Recording post-padding = 2 minutes
Second Recording pre-padding = 1 minute

therefore 2 > 1 then 2 / 2 = 1 minute

so give 1 minute of padding for each show.
