I think you gonna have a problem there, since subtitles are a "stream" within the .vob file (as video and audio is) I haven't found a program that will rip the subtitle stream to a .srt automaticly, a lot of characters have to be "learned" by the program (manually enter them) and even then a final check of the "produced" words/sentences are usefull.

Curious of what you'll come up with, Zehd Wink

Yes, I understand the problem, i have ripped subtitles with subrip from dvdConfused and know the drill.

However I use a program called AoA DVD Ripper and it does just what i want, "burn in" the subtitle into a mpeg2. The sub stream (language) i selectable i a menu. But it's hard sometimes to get the AR right for the mvp instead so...

Aaaagghhh think before you post.... I must correct myself.....

OK here it goes, subtitles are a stream within the VOB so far so good, but...... there defined in the .ifo file so it should be possible to extract that info for ripping the correct subtitle stream.

Since I'm (also) on a mac, I fired up FFmpegX (it's a gui for ffmpeg & mencoder)
and there it was, you can select a subtitle file or select a .ifo unfortunately this only works when using mpeg2enc NOT ffmpeg or Mencoder

now the only thing to do is to get the produced commandline visualized.......

heh, well I knew that I'd be using a different techniqe than srt. I'd have to get inside the vob. Maybe its not that difficult. Just haven't had the time to see...

I'll bet the answer is staring us in the face. But I haven't looked. I almost feel guilty letting you do all the work....

The Mencoder docs show how to rip the subtitles out of DVD You can either post process with OCR or leave the graphics as is. As is is larger file size, but quicker... (Probably delete after)

I believe that after the title have been ripped, one can then transcode them into an MVP MPG.

I am still having some trouble understanding all of the syntax for this, but I suppose I'd like to see it work as a two step process.

My goal would be to make this one step, so someone could select a vob, and have it transcoded with subtitles...

Currently though GB-PVR does not let you see the Vobs - they're hidden - making me go back to the two step process..

Well , that is a dead end street, within ffmpegX I cant use ffmpeg to create an Mpeg2 with ripped subtitles from a DVD. Mencoder can't be used at all and mpeg2enc does the job but please, not another encoder !
So, actually, I haven't done anything and it's up to you again Zehd !

Anyway, If it can be done, it will be done...
