So I'm trying to figure out if I should get an MVP for $100, or contribute that amount to getting a standalone dvd recorder + hdd combo. Do mvp's last for more than a year before breaking?

I've got 5, 4 are more then 1 one year old , and 2 of these from ebay with an unknown history. None are broken.

Sure, its a solid state device, no moving parts, should last for years. I have had mine for over a year.

I am over 2 years on 24/7 on one and over 1.5 years on another. I don't see any change in quality.

I got mine for 2+ years with absolutely no signs of wearing out. It runs quite cool as well, which is always good for electronics.

Compared to the alternative you are looking at with a lot more sensitive electronics and moving parts, I believe the MVP will probably survive maybe more than one DVD/HDD recorder.

But you get so much more with an MVP fronting GBPVR. A stand alone DVD/HDD recorder is a fundamentally different (and lesser!) animal...

I've had mine for almost 2 years and it's still growing strong, I just had to replace the 1 power adapter since somebody attached it to a 220v outlet and it's a 110v adapter. Other than that i've had no big problems except probably dongle and loading issues that everyone probably encountered.

Also, you might want to search around the forums regarding the revision versions, bec I remember a version that was overheating, I just don't remember the version. I have 2 D3As so I guess that was not it.

Tipster, I saw in your sig you have a MediaMVP working on a 16x9-HDTV fashion, how did you manage this?

I have 3 MVP's running. Youngest over 2 years and oldest more than 3 years. My pvr-cards are that old too!
Regards!
