Right,

I have a few old VHS tapes, and bought a VCR-DVD combo player for "fair use" copying to DVD before I retire the tapes. Of course I then discovered "Macrovision", for which there are a number of solutions, some being devices such as the GREX which look the business but are not cheap. (I don't have THAT many videos to convert).

So in looking at other solutions I found that TVTool, ffmpeg and VideoLAN are all software possibilities for getting past Macrovision. Only trick is to get the signal into the PC from my Combo Video Player and back out again (Or I could just record to the DVD Player in my PC I guess).

My thoughts were to use the PVR150 as in the input or capture device from the VCR part of my DVD/VCR combo, as the PVR150 has a Hardware Encoding Chip and a S-Video in port. Then my Video Card Back out to the DVD Recorder of my DVD/VCR Combo.

Has anyone done this? I am looking at using TV Tool if it works with my NVIDIA Geforce 6200 (I think it has TV Out) as TVTool has a disable Macrovision option.

Ta,

k.

If memory serves correctly the 5200 tv out was made by nvidia themselves so tvtool will not work. I know it didn't for my geforce 440mx when I tried it a few years back.

Why not use GBPVR for capturing the videostream? I defined a separate capture source for my videorecorder. Worked reasonably well for my 20 VHS tapes. See also http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=10761

The only thing I noticed was the sound being slightly out of sync on some recordings, and a tiny green band at the bottom. I do not know if it works on the PVR 150. I did use the composite video input of the PVR350. One of the commentors on the thread I referred to suggested to use the antenna input to get rid of the green band. I did not try that.
