Live TV Crashing the PC

I'm having problems with Live TV. Either selecting Live TV from the main menu or selecting "watch" from the EPG frequently causes the screen to freeze, and the only way out is ctrl-alt-del and kill the GBPVR application. I've just upgraded to 99.12 + all patches, but this was happening before I did the upgrade (99.5 before). Since the upgrade killing GBPVR from the task manager crashes the entire machine and results in a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" box on rebooting. The event log contains a 1003 event with description:
