Hello all. I have been using the GB-PVR with the MediaMVP for a bit and I just tried to play a MP4 video file and it causes the system to go back to the menu and pop this message up on the computer running the GB-PVR.

I am using ZProcess to help with the transcoding.

Here is the error box.

I do have the CCCP installed and playing the file in Windows Media Player works just fine. As well as Media Player Classic, VLC, and Zoomplayer.

The file is a Nero Digital Video with AC3 audio.

If you need anything else to help, just ask.

Thank you.

Well, the error is pretty straight forward it can't find the arial.ttf font that should be in you Windows/Fonts folder

Before we troubleshoot that, are you able to transcode the MP4 ok when using FFmpeg as your preferred transcoder?

I looked closer and the command line wasn't generated by ZProcess. Normally, on its own, you should not have to specify a font path. There may be an error, but it would not prohibit transcoding.

I also suspect that you are not using the version of MEncoder that I suggest installing. When installed correctly, ZProcess will try to point to C:\WINDOWS\fonts\trebuc.TTF which it uses for subtitles. Again, if it is not present, there should not be a problem.

edit: I tried removing the trebuc.ttf and transcoded and there was nary an error

Anyway, would you mind zipping and attaching the ZProcess Logs I'll have a look

I think it found arial.ttf it just thought it wasn't a bitmap font, which it isn't.

Ok I just had MVP play the file and tried a manual transcode to give you information from both in the logs.

Still same problem but the manual transcode is extremely slow, slower than realtime yet it is blazing fast on non MP4 files.

Logs are attached to this post.

Edit:
Logs don't show up for attachment downloading so I uploaded them offsite.

Here

Edit2:
I saw in your post up top that you would like system specs so here they are.

CPU: AMD64 3000+
Ram: 3 Gig
OS: XP Pro SP2 - Fully Patched
MVP: H3 Wired

If you need anything else just ask.

I'm sorry but that is my limitation with the MP4 format. The logs show that ZProcess is unable to determine the aspect ratio when it calls mplayer. That indicates mplayer doesn't like the file.

Then when ZProcess tries to transcode anyway, even with FFmpeg, it's slow, because ffmpeg doesn't like the file...

I know that when I added support for mp4 at a request of another user, I didn't like the format either; I had a hell of a time. But I thought, whatever...

Although I tried to tweak things and do what I could, it would seem that MP4 files are not something that I would suggest is compatible...

Two things have to happen: mplayer must be able to open the file and get aspect ratio and framerate. This is regardless of what transcoder you wish to use.

And, the transcoder has to transcode at faster than real time. If it can't, there's nothing that ZProcess can do. Certainly seems that you computer is beefy enough

Ok thank you for the attempt Zehd!

Aye, the computer is solely for GBPVR so I doubt it has any issues with lack of processing power.

If it can't handle MP4 then there's the answer. Thank you for your time. I will just transcode the file to something else from DVD then.

sorry... I would say that Divx or xvid avi is currently your best bet...

(and then, after a cup of coffee...)

I don't want to get your hopes up, but I might have some time to dig into this further. You said that its a Nero Digital Video MP4. Well it's obvious that the file format is different from other MP4s that I originally worked with. I might be able to tweak something up for.

Don't hold you breath...

Hey, it turns out I don't own Nero, and I've decided to go the straight and narrow...

But if you have a relatively small NeroDigital Video clip that I can download and try, I might have a go at it. Supposedly the ffmpeg and mencoder can do it, but might need some command line tweaking...
