When I play a DVD through GB-PVR I get a picture, but no audio.

I get audio if I play the DVD through Windows Media player so I know that there's not a hardware problem.

I tried switching the Audio Renderer from "System Default" to nVidia Decoders but it didn't change anything.

My MOBO is what I use for sound: it has the Realtek AC97 codec and supports 7.1 HD audio as well as an optical out. (nForce 4 Chipset).

Any suggestions as to what I should change in the System Config?

Did you do that on the 'playback' tab or the 'DVD & Remote' tab?

I changed those settings on the DVD & Remote tab.

I dont know. All I can suggest is trying an audio decoder other than the nvidia one to see if you fare any better.

Any suggestions as to what audio decoder I could use? Is there a free one?

I had the same problem, try AC3filter. That fixed it for me.

I think you were changing the audio decoder not the renderer.
You might try changing the renderer as well.

And take a look at the lastdvdgraph.grf with graphedit.
See if the audio portion makes sense or if there are unconnected components.

If you don't know how to do this, ask.

go to http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=GraphEdit
and download the tool from the mirror site. The main site is on microsoft's server and requires the validation hassle.
Unpack the zip file into a directory of your choice

First play a DVD for a few seconds and quit out of GBPVR.
You will need to do this anytime you change the config for the DVD.

Go back to the graphedit dir and double click on graphedit.exe.

Go to file>open graph and navigate to the gbpvr install directory and select the lastdvdgraph.grf.
It will open the graph up and you can see all the direct show filters that it was trying to use. There should be lines connecting them all together showing you the data flow.

Some of the filters will allow you to look at properties for the filter using a right mouse click.
