I just switched my MCE 2005 remote driver from the HIP alternate driver to the default driver eHome Infrared Receiver driver. I was hoping this would make my mute issue go away -- when watching Live TV, if volume is muted, no buttons on the remote other than Mute do anything, even though I see them get processed by Event Ghost.

Problem #1 with eHome driver: it sends a keystroke and button press each time a button is pressed, resulting in a double press (e.g. down button moves down twice).

Problem #2 with eHome driver: keyboard stroke of button press is processed by the app on my PC that has focus, e.g. my web browser. Pressing down makes GB-PVR menu move down one item, but also scrolls my web browser down a few lines.

Does anyone have the MCE 2005 remote working with GB-PVR? If so, what driver are you using for Windows (I'm running XP), and what app do you use to send the button presses to GB-PVR?

I'm going back to the HIP alternate driver for now.

I'm using an two MCE 2005 remote on two machines (lounge and bedroom) and both have worked beautifully for me. My would have long since cancelled the project if it hadnt been working well on those machines.

From what I've gathered by reading posts, probably about half the people here are using MCE remotes.

I just use the default MCE driver that comes with XP Pro. I dont use anything to send button presses to GBPVR - I just set the remote type to 'MCE remote' in the config app and it does everything I need.

Maybe I don't need to use Event Ghost or HIP then, since the config app has MCE Remote as an option (which I think I have it set that way).

What would I do to map buttons to keystrokes (single or sequence)? Wouldn't I have to use something like Event Ghost, then set the option in the config app for remote type to something other than MCE?

You dont need to map buttons to keystrokes - it already has default mappings hardcoded. You only need to use HIP/EventGost/Girder etc if you want to something other than these default mappings (since they're not configurable).

That's what I meant ... if I want button to keystroke mappings other than what GB-PVR has, don't I have to use HIP/Event Ghost/Girder? Sounds like that's a yes, which means my problems still exist.

Maybe it's the eHome driver version I have. Can you zip up yours so I can try it? Something is seriously wrong on my end.

If you need to something other than the default, then yes, you need to find your own external software for doing it.

Can you post screenshots of your driver property tabs for the eHome Infrared Receiver under USB Devices? What OS are you running? I have XP+SP2. I'm looking at this link and it looks like it updates hidir.sys and Irbus.sys. I read this post and copied just the inf and sys files. Attached are those files.

I'm running XP SP2. See screenshot for driver details.

What is it exactly that you're trying to do that the default MCE remote function doesnt support?

Example would be assign the PC button as launching GB-PVR, Start button as Last Channel (CTRL-W), DVD Menu as HOME, * as Video Library (F3), # as Audio Library (F4).

Ok, sorry - no easy way to do that type of stuff. You would need to use one of these external app for this.
