I've done programing, but only web stuff. I wanted to make a thin version of "My Videos" before IMDB makes some change and it can no longer get posters/info from there. I also want to fix some minor bugs it was left w/, too.

I have a copy of Studio 2003, but I can get my hands on 2005. Is it a big improvement to use it? I was assuming so to take advantage of the .net 2.0 stuff.

Also, how up to date is the dev stuff in wiki? The UI Elements seemed current, but everything else looked pre-.977

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe a .NET 1.1 dll can reference a 2.0 dll, so if the GBPVR public dlls (and my UI library) may be out of bounds.

I don't want to blow my own trumpet but if your the type of guy that learns from examples most of my plugins have their source code on their wiki page, may be worth a look. If your interested I could add you to the list of preview users of the new version of GBPVR UI elements - it has a 'multiview' element that is similar to what reven had for his 'My' series.

That's correct - there was a recent thread here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=26497 where the guy was trying to use VS .NET 2003 with the latest GBPVRPublic.dll and it was throwing an error saying it couldn't recognise the dll.

Cheers,
Brian

From what bgowland posts, that looks to be true. I ended up finding the new dev versions of studio on MS for free (http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/windows/). Unless I'm misunderstandign, the C# Express edition should work for me. If not, I can still get that 2005 copy.

I do learn that way, too. I grabbed all the samples from wiki, and I appreciate your (amoung others) contributions there. I didn't think to grab other sources, but I will now.

The key things reven did differently than the alternatives out now is the directory assignments. We have shows for us, some for the kids, and same w/ movies. If it was all in one place, it would be unmanagable.

Anyway, I'd be intersted in that preview, too. Anything that helps me see how what I want to do is done, gives me a plateau to make it do what I need it to do.

Apart from some differences in the IDE and a few restrictions (lack of Project Templates for example), the Express Editions are surprisingly well-featured. I use C# Express daily for a freelance project I'm working on. Apart from the fact that I had to import a Windows Service template project from VS 2003, pretty much everything I need is in there.

Cheers,
Brian
