I would like someway to see the signal quality/signal strength ( perhaps as part of the channel mapping tool? ) so I can tune my antenna positioning. The software that comes with some of the ( ATSC ) cards is near useless for this.

It would be nice for it to be separate from the main gb-pvr program, as when I vnc into the tv computer from my laptop on the roof, I can't see things drawn with Overlay mode.

Not a high priority or vastly important by any means, but it would be nifty to have.

Thanks,

You can already do this within live tv by pressing Ctrl-O, but there are no standards for what ranges drivers return signal strength in so it wont work with all device. It only really works with the devices I have, which all happen to return values in the 0-100 range. I know some other devices use ranges like -60000 to -4000 etc.

I did not know that, thanks!

It doesn't quite solve my problem of how to see that when I am on the roof with the antenna. I'm sure I'll work something out.

Thanks,

So, with devices that don't work - does it show something? or just does nothing on the CTRL-O? cause I get no response with this button.
* Rogers Analog Cable [Canada]
* Hauppauge WintTV PVR USB2
* IBM Thinkpad T42 / 1GB Mem / Centrino 1.6Ghz / 60GB HD / ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 + VGA/DVI out
* MCE Remote + Keyboard
* Win XP SP2 / GBPVR [Latest version. always]
* Pioneer HDTV via VGA (1360x768)
* MS Remote Keyboard
* Logitech Harmony 880 [via MS Remote Control Reciever]

It only shows something with BDA devices. You wont get anything with an analog device.

Playing the move-the-antenna-for-the-best-signal game is a nightmare! After many roof "trips" I finally caved in and bought a compass from walmart for $5. Then I went to antennaweb.org and figured out the exact position to get the best signal for the channels I'm interested in - in my case 182-184 degrees. I went up and set it at exactly 183 degrees and I get a rock solid signal on all of my channels Smile

Haven't been up there for over a month now Big Grin.

The nice thing about antennaweb.org is that it also tells you what channels you SHOULD be able to get - both analog and ATSC - all based on how far from the broadcast towers you are.
