Greetings

I've been having trouble with my system freezing up "locking up" recently without any log entries for gbpvr or system. I've noticed references in the past (searched threads) and recently about trying overlay instead of VMR. So I am wondering if there can be a short summary of the differences between the two. Currently I am using the nVideo PureVideo and would like to know if that is part of switching from VMR to Overlay.

when you say "locking up" do you mean gbpvr or the whole pc?

When does this happen, e.g. recording or playback?

if the entire pc hangs, it is most likely a dodgy device driver or you have some kind of hardware problem.

whole pc but it only happens once gbpvr has started. Usually a second after starting. Sometime but less frequently after several hours.

when gbpvr starts, it does use a lot of cpu and hard disk cycles.

I would stress test your pc to see if it runs without problems. This small program has a stress/torture test mode.

Leavie it running for an hour but keep an eye on your temps. If it returns a error or hangs, you have a hardware problem.

I appreciate the ideas but being an experienced oc'er (well at least 7 years of it) I ran memtest, prime, superpi etc to check out my build at the start. That is why I'm wondering about the stuff after the system build. I'm not as familar with encoders and such.

If it hangs your whole PC its likely to either an error in a driver, or some hardware instability. Its not likely to be a user mode thing like a decoder etc.

The most obvious difference is the OSD doesnt look as cool with Overlay. With Overlay, it's resolution is tied to the resolution of the video, so it can look chunky. It also doesnt support semi-transparent OSD.

My client-pc hangs when changing channels. However when using 'overlay', no problem. So the question is: what is the difference between using VMR or Overlay ?

I cant think of any difference that would cause this.

If the computer has to be shut down then maybe it's your video card drivers. Do you have the latest?

i don't know if gbpvr inspects the tuners on startup (which is when it is apparently freezing the pc) - sub?

If it does then the drivers/config of the 150's would be a likely cause of the problems.

Smoker: Does it happen after a reboot as well or only when it comes out of standby/hibernate?
