Hi - I've been reading a lot of documentation and support threads - but I'm not really clear if GBPVR can do what I want - I have a lot of music & videos stored on my PC - can I use GBPVR to watch/listen to these across my network? If so - whats the easiest way to do it (all XP based).

Thanks

It can do this as a client and server. It can also do this with the MVP media extender. It can also do this as a server with network mounted drives.

What exactly are you trying to do?
GBpvr PC: Intel Celeron 1.8 Ghz. 768 Mb WinXp Home Sp2
Video: Diamond 128 Mb 9550
Capture Cards: PVR-150 & PVR-150 MCE w/fm + 2x MVP

Hi Pastro - well I'm just at the construction phase at the moment. I had a Kiss 558, which has just died - so am looking to emulate most of its features. I have a lot of mp3 & avi files on my PC upstairs and want to be able to watch them via GBPVR on my TV downstairs. The network wiring is already in place - just wondering what the easiest way to do this is? From your reply - I guess its just share the drives on the PC and pick them up on the GBPVR machine? Is that right or is there more to it? Thanks.

1. are you going to use it to record tv programs?
2.or just watch mpegs,avi,mp3s?
becuase there are tv listing etc that wont show up if you just share the hard drives

Winamp is better for mp3
but gbpvr is the best for video/tv recordings etc

do you have tv tuner/s in your setup?

Yes - I will be recording as well - onto the internal HD. I've bought a Hauppauge 1300 as the TV card.

So - back to the question - the best way to stream from my PC???

If you want to install GB-PVR on the other computers you can use them as a client.

What I do is share my recordings, music, and video library directories over the network. I then mount the hard drive so on my laptop drive Z: goes to the media PC's media. I can then play anything I want over the laptop.

or you can install gbpvr upstairs and buy a hauppauge "media mvp" media extender for your tv - presupposed that at your PC the tv antenna signal is available.

thus you have a fanless, quite and favorable possibility to use gbpvr mediacentre.

Set it up as a server client in config and you need to open up some ports
(on ALL COMPUTERS you want to use)
in windows firewall
exceptions
add Name :gbpvr tcp 7968,tcp
and name: pvr 7647,tcp

then you can use it just the same as you would if it was in the lounge
schedule recordings etc and it also shows the show info on both pcs
(only thing that doesnt work is live tv or watch while recording just doesnt handle that )i never watch live anymore anyway

as for mp3 the music part of gbpvr is pretty simple
you can add external players etc like i said before i use winamp,
mce remote with the program hip to control it
