Video conversion utility

Does anyone know of a good video file conversion utility (say, .mpg -> .wmv) for freeing up some space w/o losing too much quality, etc.? Also, might this be made into a plug-in?

If you want to go to DIVX or Xvid formats, I'd suggest AutoGK, best little utility I've found to produce great quality MPEG4 files.

If you want to go from MPG to WMV then check out Microsoft Encoder 9, it'll take any input and convert to a WMV, and it's also free from Microsoft.

I use Virtual Dub, the good thing is that u can edit the video too, so usually i cut out all the commercials, so that i have a nice movie left.
