I see several conversations about this card all over this forum, and I know that apparently the QAM is not supported in GBPVR (yet... is it planned to support?). I do not see the card on the wiki's list of capture cards. My understanding is that the cable tuner side is essentially a PVR 150, which is apparently one of the preferred cards for GBPVR. I would like to give myself the option of seeing those QAM channels but not if I can't make use of the regular channels too. I am going on the assumption that I won't like the Hauppage provided media software since it seems to get slammed in a lot of the reviews I have seen.

Should I just get the PVR-150, or will I have the same functionality out of the box with the HVR-1600 & GBPVR, with the possible added benefit of future QAM support?

Yes it works. Lots of people are using this card with GB-PVR. Analog cable or OTA digital work today, but you'd have to wait for the next release for QAM.

If I was in the US looking to buy a card today, I'd go with an HVR1600.

I recently bought this card and can confirm the Analog portion does work with GB-PVR. And anxiously awaiting the next release for the QAM support.

I have two HVR-1600 cards in my system and GB-PVR 99.12 works great with the analog side of the cards. I don't have an antenna for the ATSC side, so I can't comment on that part.

I'm EAGERLY awaiting the next GBPVR update that is supposed to add QAM support.

As for WinTV, I can't get it to do much of anything on my system. Sometimes it'll tune the digital stations, most of the time it just gives a blank screen (on the same stations I tuned earlier). The scheduler seems to record the same analog channel regardless of what digital channel I tell it to record? WinTV is mostly worthless.

By the way, I've tried SageTV and BeyondTV and neither of them support the QAM side of the HVR-1600 cards either. But, QAM support was just added by Hauppauge, so I suspect it'll take a bit for the support to arrive. In the meantime, the HVR-1600's work great as analog cards.

If my cable provide offers HDTV channels, will this card be able to tune them? Is that what QAM support is needed for? Or does it only support HDTV with a digital antenna?

EDIT: Never mind; I read the Hauppauge web site and they explained that QAM is what I need for this. I also found that they are on sale right now (after 2 rebates) for $69.99 at Circuit City- which seems like a good deal.

Remember, only some models of HVR1600 do QAM, so you might want to research that before buying.

I saw that only certain models of the hvr-1600 have QAM, I am reading the shopping site write up carefully. Thanks for the reminder. I was looking at the Hauppauge site last night tho trying to figure out what the difference between the hvr-1800 and the hvr-1600 actually was. I couldn't figure it out.

I'm fairly sure the only difference is that the hvr-1800 is for PCI-express instead of PCI. I havnt heard too much about it yet though, so cant comment on QAM etc.
