Is there somewhere that explains what all the different VMR 9 options are?
Like:
Which one has to be used with 1.0.8?
What are the difference between them?

With PVRX2 its always using the VMR9 Custom renderer, unless you run it with the "-fse" command line parameter, then its using the VMR9 Fullscreen Excluse renderer. These are both pretty much identical, and are even the same code, both using Direct3D for drawing to the screen. The difference is that the fullscreen exclusive one asks Windows for exclusive access to the video card.

So basically the render option in the config doesn't do anything? What is the regular "VMR 9" option for?

If I set it to anyting other than VMR 9 Custom Render (like "VMR9 Fullscreen Excluse renderer" or "VMR 7") in config will it might make things perform worse?

Currently I have config set to VMR 7 because I can get smooth playback in PVRX2 if i pause/un-pause my recording or enter/exit live tv a few times. Once I change a channel or adjust the volume tho, i have to tango with the pause or volume button till playback becomes smooth again.

That video renderer setting is only used in the old GBPVR.exe interface. The PVRX2 interface doesnt even look at this setting.

Odd. Toggling it on my system does have an effect in PVRX2 as to whether video is choppy all the time or only part of the time.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

vmr custom is crap it has never worked on any of my machines so i guess its time to admit defeat

overlay is overlay
vmr uses direct draw
vmr custom uses direct3d
fse uses direct 3d but makes fullscreen take more control than anything else

so i guess thats why power dvd and everything else still only uses direct draw hence the reason it plays better

bring back overlayBig Grin

Yes, the main difference is that VMR9 uses DirectDraw while VMR9 Custom uses Direct3D.

I'm not sure what jagged edges you're talking about. I'm not seeing anything like that. Can you post a screenshot so I cant see?

A lot of apps stick with Overlay so that they can work with the lowest common denominator.

Microsoft also uses the equivalent of VMR9 Custom for Windows MCE. The picture has been produced (including it's inherent image quality) by the decoder and VMR9 mixer prior to it get to the custom allocator/presentor. The only thing different is it uses Direct3D to draw the image on the screen. The video card you use has a lot of impact on the quality of Direct3D, so it may come down to the card you're using or it's drivers.

I can understand that drawing the interface uses direct 3d, but when you are rendering a video, why couldn't it use overlay or vmr7? Is it for other features like video in a panel or something along those lines?
