Right... so I've read many threads on the issue of GBPVR creating 0kb tv recordings but none of these have provided me with any answers ..

What happened;

GBPVR working great, recording stuff happily .. no worries ... then one day, without having touched the PC on which it runs ... all recordings started ending up as 0kb ... Sad

We're running v95.16 with a Nova-T, Cyberlink Mux and xmltv epg through bleb ... nothing changed in the system to influence this issue and the PC runs 24/7 without any form of hibernation ... the drive where recordings go has over 60GB of space left ...

Additionally I read on other threads reports of an issue of there being mysterious files in the devnz programme file folder that don't have file extensions (none of the threads suggested why/how they're there) ... I seem to have a selection of these which I'm not sure what to do with or how they got there .. these all are named in line with previously recorded shows ...

Logs attached. Mysterious 'no file extension' files attached.

I tried switching to using the DVR-MS encoder but this resulted in a 6kb file (presumably this file size is made up of background info rather than recorded content and so the same as a 0kb mpg file? )

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers

Cliff

This message is in your recording service native log:

VERBOSE locked=0 present=0 strength=-41000 quality=0

I get the same message for my Nova-T when it is receiving no signal.

Good luck

Graham

As an afterthought -- Have they done something at the transmitter? What happens if you scan for channels in config.exe?

The usual cause of zero byte recordings is (as graham mentioned above) caused by the card failing to lock onto a signal.

This was a known issue a few releases back. The fix is to upgrade to more recent release, and switch to the SQLite database.

BTW: you can switch to the SQLite database using the ChangeDatabase.exe program

Thanks all ... I managed to fix this under the current settings ... wanna know how?

Well after trying unsuccessfully with everything and knowing full well that nothing had been changed, nor was there a problem with our reception, I shut the PC down, unplugged everything at the wall ... went and had a cuppa tea, then came back, plugged in again, started up and hey presto it works again ... Rolleyes

You tell me why!?

... as it turns out we've decided to buy a new PC anyhow (nothing relative to this!) so will upgrade versions when swapping everything over ...

Thanks for all your help(s)

i run into this from time to time. I know my reception is good, but it'll suddenly start making 0 byte files, and the Recordings report "failed". Rebooting fixes it.

sounds like the tuner isn't waking up properly when it comes out of standby. I used to get this problem with the pvr-350.

if you are interested, search the forum for "devcon wake.cmd". there is a sample wake.cmd file that can be run by gbpvrwake.exe to reset the pci device when the pc wakes up.
