I see that the Intel CPU's just had a big drop and the Quad core Q6600 is under $300 CDN which doesn't seem bad at all. However is there anyway that can GBPVR taken advantage of this or should I stick with a dual core.

I have seen this in the config.xml so it doesn't seem that GBPVR can take advantage too much

<ForceSingleProcessorAffinity>true</ForceSingleProcessorAffinity>

If you set ForceSingleProcessorAffinity to false, then it should work across all cores.

That setting has been defaulted to 'true' for a couple of years now, at which time directshow sometimes had problems with the dual core processors that were just starting to appear. The situation seems to has improved, and its usually ok these days, so the new PVRX2 app ignores this setting and always uses all available cores.

Great sub, I won't jump on the Quad bus until I give this change a good workout. GBPVR doesn't really use a lot of resources anyway, so this might be all I need.

I'm not a gamer so until they do h.264 in hardware I think processor speed is more important for my needs. My on board video can do 1080p and I hoping with an add2 card I will even get HDMI.

the quad cores generate a fair bit more heat than the dual cores and so will need better/larger or noiser cooling.

FWIW: the g0 stepping cpu's generate 10W less power than the regular quads.

Whilst i am thinking about a quad for my main rig, I would personally stick to a dual core for the htpc.

Thanks I have been impressed with my E4300 low heat under 30 C overclocked to 2.4 so I should really keep this in mind too. The affinity change has made somethings seem better so I'm not as eager as I was yesterday.
