Upgrading & DataBase

Sub,
I am still using the old Database and was curious if I need to run
the GBPVRConvert.exe before I install your new version.

I understand that I will have to install vcredist_x86.zip before
running the installer but was wondering about the database.

By the way, what is vcredist_x86.zip?

I think it is worth coverting to the new database, but I dont know if I'd recommend doing it at approximately the same time as the upgrade though - too many variables if you encounter problems. Might be best to separate it by a few days from the version upgrade so you can be sure where problems might be. (1.0.8 can still use the old Access database, so it can either be before or after the upgrade)

Regardless, backup your database first.

vcredist_x86 installs some updated Microsoft runtime libraries. These have been required ever since I installed a recent Service Pack for the Microsoft Development tools I used

Thanks Sub..... I will go ahead and Upgrade GBPVR then in a week or
so convert the DataBase. Your right, if something should break
It wouldn't be easy to pin point what happen.

After the install, I noticed a new file on my Video Drive ( Slave )
it's wmppia.dll

I deleted it not knowing what it was.
Of course I left it in the recycle Bin in case an issue
came up and I needed to undo the delete.

Well, when I tried to stated PVRX2 it started trying to reinstall
itself. So I hit cancel and put the file back on my Slave.

Is this a known file of PVRX2?

The windows installer is supposed to put the file in the .net global assembly cache directory, but a few people have noticed it being put in the root directory of one their drives. There have been reports of this from a few people over the last year or so.

I've done something in the installer in the next release which will hopefully help stop this happening. I'm not sure though - it seems to be a bug in the installer.

Yes. We moved away from MS Access because of a few bugs it caused. The most notable of these was a problem where committed data would not be present when the data was reread in the next half second or so. This caused lots of small bugs to occur (recordings not appearing in recordings screen, empty files with show names in the gbpvr directory, and others...). It also had a terrible habit of growing but never shrinking.

So all I have to do is execute the ChangeDatabase.exe
and it will convert?

Or GBPVRConvert.exe

Not sure which one.

ChangeDatabase.exe. Your original database is not modified, so its easy to go back in the case of a problem.
