Can someone tell me what the best recording rename utility currently is? I'm wanting to rename my default filename recordings to something like Lost-s01e10.mpg.

I ran across Zrename and it failed to get some of the information and appears to not be in development anymore. I also tried AddEpisode but I had some problems with it also. If someone can tell me if there is a working renaming utility then I can try that one and work through any problems I might be having..

It's a good chance that it's something I'm doing wrong, but when I try:

addepisode "c:\media\recordings\Last Comic Standing\Last Comic Standing_20070801_20002100.mpg" "{show}{season and episode or date}"

I don't get any error messages and my filename does not change. I'm running addepisode from my gbpvr install directory.

ZRename still does a good job for most of the main stream shows, but is mostly designed for shows that are recorded off air.

Also, it works the best when you are also using I-XMLTV schedule enhancer as there is some extra info that makes getting the season numbers easier to find.

As far as I know, ZRename is the only util that will scrape info off the net and rename files using season and episode numbers.

Being out of development doesn't mean it stopped working...

Thanks for the reply Frank. I thought that Zrename was not operating any more after reading your post that said:

"ZRename is failing. This may be because of changes with epguides.com.
A scraper is always susceptible to web design changes. And with the lack of source code, I will not be able to fix ZRename...
I have learned a lot, and remember most. I suspect I will be giving ZRename another try.
I'm sorry to all those who have come to use and like ZRename. And thanks to all those who helped me develop the first version..."

Being it was only posted a few weeks ago I thought the ship was sunk.

Is the I-XMLTV information you mentioned the Yahoo tv listings?

First, installing I-XMLTV now will not help you for previously recorded shows. It's part of http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utili...percharger

It adds episode numbers and airdates by default. ZRename uses this info and has better success.

BUT, just cause it's failing doesn't mean that it HAS failed.

The reason I wrote that is, that for the summer series like Canadian Idol, the ep data was inconsistent. I would have wanted to get into the source and tweak it so *I* wouldn't have any problems (Is anyone else watching Canadian Idol - It sucks this year)

That said, Mainstream series like Lost should work even without I-XMLTV...

I'm not sure if you can count on correct info for any reality based show like Idol or Last Comic... and I don't think it's something we can fix, that's up to the fans to update epguides.com, and reality fans, are less accurate then dramatic series fans...

But it should at least rename it with something meaningful...

Thanks for the reply. Your explanation does make sense.

I tried with the 'Last Comic Standing' I gave above. WhenI click on 'Find in DB' the only info I get is Programme Name. Clicking on 'Get from Net' and 'Preview' don't appear to do anything. Because of the lack of additonal information, my output filename is "last.comic.standing.mpg". I guess there's really not much that can be done?

Also, when I look at the recording in EWA I have the following information available:

Last Comic Standing: Challenge No. 1
The top 10 comics pair up for the heckle challenge; one comic wins a spot in the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal.

Genre: Reality

Yeah, for me to look into it would require source code. I can't. It's probably a reality TV thing...

Ouch! Unfortunately that's about all I watch (I know, it's sad).

What puzzles me is that the description and the subtitle are in the database but Zrename is not finding it.

I guess I'll have to try and work out my issues with 'addepisode'.
