Sorry if this has been asked before...

Should we all be trying to bring more users to GBPVR?

This occured to me as I was just setting up my sig for the Schedules Direct forum (I proudly put "GBPVR user since 2005" as the top line).

I am really unclear as to subs motivation / purpose for running GBPVR. I believe he has stated that GBPVR will never become a commercial paid product.

So... Are more users good or bad for the program?

DIY PVR's have been in the news / blogs quite a bit since the Zap2It announcement. These stories always include a mention of Myth but very rarely ever mention GBPVR. I am always tempted to make comments mentioning GBPVR (and sometimes do).

The Myth forums are full of frustrated first time builders (I know, I was one of them). Seems like it would be easy to pull in lots of new GBPVR users if we wanted to.

I'm interested in seeing just how much PVR's will adapt in the states when analog is cut off. I know alot depends on the individual providers but hardware is changing fast in that regard.

I'm kind of surprised this is seen as such a big issue to the DIY PVR community. I have been using digital cable with GBPVR pretty much since I started. It does bring up some issues for folks with multiple capture cards (which requires multiple STB's) but I can't imagine it's a deal killer for many people.

Cable companies giving away free PVR's are probably more of a threat. Luckily the cable companies are shooting themselves in the foot with these (no fast forward, no burning, the broadcast flag etc).
