ZProcess 2 Feature Request thread...

Anyone switching from ZProcess1 to ZProcess2 will notice there are less features in the new program.

Basically, more features makes for a more complicated program. The number one criticism I received (it's all good) is that ZProcess 'looked' too complicated - intimidating... ZProcess 2 was redesgned from the ground up to install and operate immediately from the first run.

There are still many parameters that a user can change and tweak. But it should feel easier to work with now, that there's less to look at in one go...

I'd like to know what features are missing from the new version... What was something you really got used to using in ZProcess 1...?

well, the queue is the only thing keeping me from upgrading right now. So it would be nice to have that back.

v. 1 didnt have this, but I was wondering if it would be possible to customize ZProcess 2 from within GBPVR, in my case, the MediaMVP interface.

I recently found out that ZProcess is 1000times better than a program I paid for, Nero (particularly Nero Media Home, and more particularly the transcode feature). Nero couldn't handle most of the video files I threw at it, even .avi and most of the time threw everything out of synch. I find it amazing a free program outperforms a big name paid program.

Also, the other day I transferred a quicktime file I created on a mac to my pc, and it had all kinds of playback problems, also it was too big to upload to youtube. I used ZProcess to transcode it, on a whim, and lo and behold, it made a .mpeg file with absolutely no playback problems, and the perfect size for Youtube.

Anyway, that's just a long way for me to say, thanks! (Sorry if I sound all infomercial-ish).

Well, In order to keep the interface less confusing, I purposely left out features that are actually peripheral to the original function of ZProcess. Others have also asked for this. I suspect I'll be doing something about it.

In the meantime, you could use the batch files suggested in this page. With some tweaking you'd get the same queuing as ZProcess1 had.

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tips/Post3

I recognize that some people prefer not using batch files. Indeed I think too much can go wrong if they are used incorrectly.

I may be doing something that would make it much more configurable and user friendly. Gonna need some time.

I have always dreamed that one day ZProcess would be configurable from the couch. That would involve creating a plugin dll, and I'm not well versed in the concepts required to intreface wiuth GB0-PVR that way.

I'm starting to work on another project with other developers, all have different skill sets. I'm hoping that this work will bear a fruit than can be merged into the ZProcess project too...

Of course I'm happy if ZProcess is able to help you transcode easily, but it is only an interface for Mencoder, FFmpeg or VLC. Those tools are doing the transcoding.

I'm glad it's working for you

If you're ever able to work a queue into ZProcess2, would it be possible to make a feature that automatically shuts down the PC when it's done processing the queue? In ZP1 I only see an option to close the program.

How about caching transcoded files?

When you watch non mpgs on the MVP, something needs to take that non-mpg and convert/transcode it into a mpg. Then the MVP can play it.

GB-PVR comes with ffmpeg, and it does a fine job, but does not work with letterbox, widescreen formats, and is not that easy to configure.

ZProcess evolved as a fancy batch file that helps with configuration of the ffmpeg command line that GB-PVR uses.

Since then it does a heck of lot more, and the wiki page should have most of the features. (Maybe it's time for a rewrite of the page)

It's main purpose is to maintain the aspect ratio of what ever type of non mpg you want to view on the MVP.

It will also work with MEncoder and help with colour correction...
