Hi All.

as you can see from my specs, i have a capable box (or so i think). my problem is, that i mostly gbpvr for recording football (american) games. my issue is that the quality just doesn't cut it for me. with all the quick motion on the screen there is substantial deterioration of the image. (i dont know if you call it ghosting or what, but its definitely not a smooth transitional image)

Ive read other with similar concerns, but nothing to greatly improve the quality.

does anyone have suggestions to how i can tweak the image and improve the quality for sports?

in my config, i have given the capture source the "highest" quality, which i think has improved the quality, but not to the extent i would like.

for the record, i have tried different video decoders, but only the CyberLink Video/SP Decoder allow for an image during playback. I have the following other options available:
System Default
CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (selected)
InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder for
Nero Video Decoder
GPL MPEG-1/2 Decoder
ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder

For the video Renderer i use VRM9

I have tried watching live football games on the Hauppage WinTV application, and it appears just like live tv (however it comes in black and white :S).

Again, thanks to all for the support and great application.

what do you have yours set to? (you set this in the Capture Sources Tab, then configure your settings for recording source, yeah?)

I have my settings for HIGHEST QUALITY:

Bit Rate 5500Kbits/sec
Bit Rate Peak: 9000Kbits/sec

I had a similar problem with my hauppauge pvr500 and downloaded a tool to tweak the temporal filter, the default is 8 but if you chane it to 1 and save it you should see an improvement.

It's from this site
http://www.shspvr.com
there is loads of info on using hauppauge products and their settings.

but the actual download is from here
http://www.cask-of-amontillado.com/pvr_tweak.html

Just run the exe
select 150/500 advanced
check the static temporal filter box
check the save settings box next to it
move the temporal filter(blur) slider to 1
check the save settings box next to it
do the same for the spatial filter section
then click save settings

I hope this helps

For me choosing overlay as video renderer was the best for fast moving sports.

try dscaler decoder....it rocks! when the rest won't work, it usually does..Smile
i get a better picture than Nvidia's decoder on ati cards..
in USA you can also set decoder to always put top field first in decoder's settings...and use nv12 for output colorspace for hardware accel. Big Grin

and you'll notice aspect ratios are better than cyberlink's..
try basketball...way more movement at higher pace and close-up...
[when season starts..lol]

also you can try setting the recording profile to vbr-5000-9000 instead of cbr..

thanks all. there have been some improvements made. i will continue to tweak the settings until i feel they are as good as they will get.

i have tried bits from all contributors, plus rolling the quartz.dll back to 9b.

i wish i could say there was one solution, but i dont know that i can identify just one.

thanks community!
