Ha figured it out, another problem I've had for a while has been my Live Preview mode on PVRX2.

Played with all combinations of Decoders, renderers etc you name it. Today i went back in to GBPVR and ran live tv and it was perfect. So I thought ahh, what about PVRX2 what it different.

Well, because, of the jerky (only slightly) menu animations I was using the -FSE option.

I then started pvrx2 from the tray app (no FSE) and live preview mode was fine.

With fse on, I get 1 frame every second and no audio with my current combination.

More logs. Pvrx2-native is without fse, pvrx2-native-1 is with fse.

Some further investigation.

Whats the difference between starting in windowed mode and pushing to full screen, and starting full screen normally?

But if start full screen (no fse) it doesn't work. But if I start windows and alt-enter to fullscreen then things work fine.

I have also tried numerous decoders when experimenting with the oft described "superior" VMR and derivative renderers. The one I found worked best on my setup is the Cyberlink Power DVD 7 decoder.

I also noticed another gotcha with this which was causing me stuttering issues with VMR9 rendering.

On my setup the decoder had defaulted to using YUY2 video format. I ran the cyberlink diganostics .exe and found that on my setup YV12 is around 30% faster (presumably this means that the computer can move YV12 video about more efficiently). None the less GBPVR was using YUY2. I changed it to YV12 and the stuttering disappeared (though I still think overlay produces better video overall). I did this by by telling FFDSHOW to only connect using YV12 (I use FFDSHOW to do deinterlacing and for blur and denoise).

It is possible you are also using YUY2 as your video format. Maybe you should take a look at this aspect also. The problem with getting smooth playback is it is all really complicated and many of the sttings have no direct menu control so you have to use graphedit etc to give you access to the needed settings - and even then you cant be certain any changes will stick.

Poosibly not a fix for your issue - just another variable.

The only difference is the window is created without a frame and with the window size set to the same size as the screen. When you toggle between window and fullscreen, it does the same thing - removes the frame and sets the window size to the same size as the screen.

Found out my shortcut for running pvrx2 wasn't pointing to the batch file i thought I was using, so it was still trying to run the fse mode. Take fse out of the picture and my system runs sweet.

Bit jerky on the animations some times, but I'd rather have good tv pitcure and livepreview.
