When I'm watching tv I can see that portions of the picture seem to be pulsating. I'm not sure how else to describe it, it's like major fluctuations in the picture, the picture isn't consistent and solid. I'm hoping this is a common issue and my bad details will be enough. All that being said, I find it extremely annoying and I would really like to fix it. My specs are

sapphire ATI550pro
nvidia 7600gt
nvidia pure video decoder

i have it set on raw aspect, film deinterlacing mode, mixed fields deinterlacing, VMR9 custom, 8 mb/s CBR, encoder pass through, with no filter on the tuner card. The signal is coming from a splitter and is being run through an amplifier.

Weird. I don't know if this is what you're describing, but there's a bug with Purevideo where you will get a slight flash every few seconds. I was getting this on my LiveTV and it took me forever to figure out.

If this is the problem you are having, you can get rid of it by changing the de-interlacing from "Smart" to "Automatic" in the NVIDIA Purevideo decoder menu.

The image is kinda flickering, it seems to be in horizantal bars, it's like the brightness of the picture is fluctuating all over the screen

has it always done this or has it just suddenly started happening?

if the later, did you change anything hardware or software wise?

is this on live tv or recordings (or both)?

I believe it's always done this and it does it for both live tv and recordings.. I actually have been changing the settings around and I believe it went away last night and then I applied the purevideo patch from this forum and I think that's when it came back so it might have something to do with the settings in that patch though they all look normal to me. I tried christv lite and it's doing it for that program too, it looks terrible, I wish I could upload a file with a clip (assuming it'd still look bad not on my computer). It seems to happen in the same spots constantly on the screen, it's like the image is throbbing.

well if it has always done it, then it went away, then came back when you applied the patch, it doesn;t sound like it is the patch to me.

we need to figure out if it is you recordings/signal, your decoder, graphics card output or connection from g.card to tv.

you could try a different decoder such as

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm

or try watching your recordings using VLC. this may help narrow things down.

It's hard to visualise exactly what your problem looks like. If it is like a white band moving down the screen then this sounds like an interference problem, either at the source or between the graphics card and your tv.

download the windows video decoder checker
once installed
set the default mpeg decoder to nvidia pure video
the set the decodder to default in gbpvr config
this way you can adjust your nvidia pure decoder setting while watching a movie
the icon comes up in the task bar if you do this showing you its using the decoder properly
no need to use the purevideo patch then (registry settings)

I did this and played with the settings but it didn't stop the phenomena. It also looks worse on some channels rather than others but this is the 2nd place i've set up this comp and both places had the problem so I'm not inclined to assume it's a signal problem.

Well my connection is DVI to an LCD display, no TV involved. Changing the decoder settings seems to have no affect on the problem. I'm not sure what else to look at. I bet if I had a pro they could take one look at the picture and know how to fix it.

It's not a white band. It's mostly like the image is flickering constantly and consistently, is there an easy way for me to record something and then make it into a file that I can watch on another computer? I'm pretty sure there is but I haven't a clue what the proper method is.
