Hi All,

Bit the bullet and finally upgraded to the new version. Access via the PC works great. Access via the MVP suffers two problems:

1. mp3 and mpg work fine but wma and divx don't - they crash the server process. I can only assume that it is anything that requires the transcoder.

2. I cannot access my network drive via the MVP. I think this is some kind of networking security issue due to the service being run under the System account. Wondering if the problem with 1 is also related? Also, can the MVP server be run in a window like they could in older versions - I can run them as the logged on user then?

Anybody else had these and found a fix?

Thank you,

Regards,

Steve

I think you have to run the gbpvrrecordingservice under a user account.
start run services.msc double click the gbpvrrecservice and change the account it runs under. (login as .....something like that)
Then the mvp server will start under a user account aswell.

Fixed number 1! It was trying to write to a Temp directory which didn't exist on my PC. This was crashing the service and therefore the MVP lost connection.

My second issue remains though.

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks HtV. I already tried that but can't get it to run under a different account. I have two user accounts on this PC and neither works when I try to restart the recording service.

For the networking issue it works for me with \\networkname\sharename logic but not with mapped drivers.

Martin

Thanks Martin. I've tried it in that form and Z:\htpc form and neither work from the MVP (it just effectively ignores the keypress) but both work fine from the PC itself.

I think the user-account that runs the recservice should have admin rights.

Thanks. Yep, it's an administrator account. The directory in question is shared and I've given "everyone" full control.

I have it working :-)

Basically I did what you guys said but there was one important thing that needed doing and that was having the same userid on both machines and they had to have an actual password rather than an empty one.

So I now have the GBPVR service running under an account other than system and access the directory using the form \\pc\dir.

I can now serve my TV directory to two MVPs!! :-)

Thanks very much for your help guys!

Cheers,

Steve
