A. Pal @ 60Hz
B. signal problems with DVB-T
But:
A. I tried setting the video card to 50Hz and although improved, there was still occasional stuttering of panning etc.
B. I used a Freeview box connected to the same aerial and the signal strength of all channels is 100% and it never stutters.

What I have found in the last ten years is how appalling all the video card makers have been, in supporting TV's.

I really do think that Nvidia and ATI should hang their heads in shame!

You can buy a DVD player or a Freeview box for £15, and in seconds you plug it in and get great quality pictures on any standard TV. No mucking around, no compatibility issues.

And yet even though PC's for years have leant themselves to video editing, playing DVD's, TV capture cards etc - for as long as I have used them, TV use has always been a big headache.

First the early cards with composite TV-out, then SVHS were almost useless unless you used third-party tools like TV-Tool, which was written by an individual in his spare time. And even 8-9 years ago there was the issue of trying to use 50Hz TV's in PAL countries. I guess Nvidia & ATI are American companies and seemed to have little concept of this!

It still seems very odd that you can't pick up any standard PC from the shelf and find on the back SCART, HDMI, Component, along with the usual DVI and D-sub connections - much like the aforementioned DVD player - and all these connections should just work without spending ridiculous amounts of time configuring them. As it stands TV's are definately not 'plug and play' on PC's.

Maybe MS are to blame for not laying down stricter criteria for video cards when new OS's have been released...[/COLOR]

why i am asking is
i want to know who has managed to get a nvidia card to playback properly on pvrx2
but i also need to know who had good playback with the old gbpvr
im coming to the conclusion its to do with the direct3d but i need a fix cause i dont want to go back to gbpvr i like the new layout but i hate the video playback

My Nvidia 6150 video card is set to 60Hz and my TV image (SVHS) is fine.

I do agree with Pob that the video card makers should really be ashamed of their performance in TV land. Even though my picture quality is ok, I'm experiencing a number of other problems with the video card with respect to the TV out:

1) Every few days, the TV settings go back to M/NTSC (typically after a reboot or resume). The only way to get a viewable TV out back is to remotely connect to my PC with VNC and manually set it back to B/PAL. I have the latest WHQL certified driver installed, and my regional settings are OK (Netherlands), so I really do not understand how this driver can be WHQL certified if it does not automatically understand that PAL is the standard in the Netherlands. The fact that it spontaneously resets to NTSC is inexcusable.

2) When I set a widescreen resolution, the TV-out is simply cropped to a 4:3 image that pans when you move the mouse off the screen. Why can't they simply output PALplus, which has been a standard in Europe for many years now (all public stations broadcast solely in PALplus and try finding a 4:3 TV). Or at least give the option to output PALplus.

3) The driver I have as far as I'm aware off has no options for finetuning the TV-out image with respect to overscan and such, so that you can nicely fill the image to the screen of your TV.

I guess Nvidia (and probably ATI as well) couldn't care less about the TV out and just focus on the gamers. Maybe we should all start harrassing them with our (their!) problems until they do something about it, because the internet is full of disappointed TV out users. Just had to get that off my chest!

yeah i know what your saying about gamers i guess thats where the money is for them cause the games are always changing so you have to buy the new card to play the new game
where as mpeg file havent changed in the last 10 years or however long
so if they made a card that played back properly then they couldnt keep selling us new cards that are just as shit as the previous ones at playing back mpeg files out to tv or if you look closely any monitor you care to use

Panning seems to be ok, has been for the last few days since I hoovered the dust out from my case.

Before this I was getting a slight picture shear when the picture panned vertically or horizontally. I've no idea if this was a heat problem as I've had the pan/shearing annoyance before & 'cured' it without really finding out what was causing it

But I had to downgrade last night to 0.99.12, because the new PVRX2 will only allow custom VMR9. I need to use overlay to do away with jerky playback. I have an old GeForce MX 4000 with S-Video out, and it handles the old GBPVR with smooth playback on a slow machine. Try a better driver. DH Zeropoint is good, from DriverHeaven. I use Nero Video Decoder and Nero Audio. I think you can get those free from Doom9 or someplace, part of a codecpack. KLite CodecPack.
Anyway, I have less than the required hardware, and I have it working well with some tweaks, so there is hope even if your system isn't adequate. I posted my specs on http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=28612&page=4

i want a solution for people using nvidia cards there must be a way

the drivers you talk about are to old to work with my card from what i tried, bugger!!

My specs are in my signature. 6600GT AGP with Purevideo 1.02.223.

Manually launching PVRX2 with the -fse switch (it doesn't listen to the config utility right now if you use that to switch to Full Screen Exclusive mode) fixed my tearing problems during panning shots. Never noticed it before using plain old GB-PVR, but I'm beginning to suspect that that was because I was using plain old VMR9.
