Awesome USB Satellite tuner, with a many modulations for NA users. (only one that it dont support is DVB-S2 (but thats not for america) )

pretty sure you can contact him for specifics and possible a sample tuner. Worth a shot anyhow.

I have the Skywalker-1.

If its got BDA drivers then it'll most likely already work. If it hasnt got BDA drivers, then you should be asking its manufacturer to create BDA drivers.

Without BDA drivers its got no chance of working with GB-PVR.

he said something bout BDA specifications do not come close to all the modes that this thing is capable of, so he decided not to write those drivers. I have no idea what the specs of BDA are or if they are going to change.

his exact response was:

BDA driver specification does not support anything except QPSK modulation.
Thus, i never made BDA driver (cause it would not be able to use other 8 modulations Skywalker-1 is capable of).

I guess my question is, if I do get him to write a driver, will gbpvr be able to handle Mpeg-4 streams from DVB cards?

The BDA specification doesnt cover these other modulation types, but its easy enough for the driver developers to add extra features like this via the IKSPropertySet interface. This is what driver developers usually do for DVB-S2, QAM ATSC, Diseqc control etc.

GB-PVR can already handle MPEG-4 (H.264) from DVB cards. Its not as widely tested as MPEG-2, but it does work. People have tried it in UK/France/Sweden.

Thanks Sub... I will pass that on to him to see how he replies.

Appreciate your input... are there any realworld source code links that are published using this method.. I did a search on google and didnt get any results that I could make sense of, but I am not a programmer of that caliber..

update:
got a reply back from him.

---
who would write a BDA driver?
I don't know how to write them.

About a year ago I posted (on several forums) a request to help to write a BDA driver.
Nobody responded yet !

so I am not giving up.. but this might take a lot more research... LOL

Anything new on this? This seems to be the only card out that can receive Dish HD (MPEG-4 stuff)

Its probably best to ask the manufacturer if he has BDA drivers yet.

Sub,

This is his reply
------------------------------
BDA driver standard does not include:
1) diseqc support
2) any modulations other then QPSK

there are cheaper cards if you wont to use BDA driver. SkyWalker-1 would be crippled by BDA
------------------------------------

Does that mean GBPVR will never be able to support it?. This is the only DVB that supports High Definition on Dish Network in the US.
