Recording digital channel question

Recording digital channel question

Can anyone explain to me how to record digital channel? i only have the cable from the outlet plugged directly to my PC and i was wondering if there is some setup i need to do. i need to record channels in the upper 100. thanks for your advance feedback.

You can only record digital cable channels if you have a QAM tuner AND the channels are unencrypted QAM. If they are unencrypted, they will not show up on the QAM tuner as channel 148, 150, etc. 148 may actually be 78-3. The cable box remaps the real channel/program to the channel number you see on the box. Most digital (QAM) channels are most likely encrypted and you won't be able to tune them. Usually only the locals are available in unencrypted form.

Your only other option is to capture them using the composite or s-video input of a capture card.

thanks for your reply.. so if i capture with composite or s-video, i will have to record manually right and have the channel changed to record?

No, you can have listings etc for cable box and schedule recordings just like you do with your existing setup, and GB-PVR will automatically change channels for you on the set top box if you have an IR Blaster.

Thanks Sub, do you have any recommendation on any IR Blaster?

Most people are either using the USB-UIRT or the MCE remote blasters.
