Using the latest GBPVR 1.0.16, I have a problem where both my MVPs show no TV guide data, yet the guide data is just fine when running GBPVR on my PC...

I have GB configured to gets it EPG data using the XMLTV Plugin, which I configured the XMLTV File setting to point to a shared folder on a server on my LAN. This file gets updated once a day by running the MceEpg2XmlTv.exe utility from a command line. Since the TV Guide displays properly when I run GBPVR on my PC, that seems to indicate I have the XMLTV settings configured just fine, right?

So I can only assume it's a MVP related issue. Doesn't the "MVP Controller" application get the guide data from the same place? Very confusing...

TIA,

-Mike

Can you view the tv guide on both the PC and the MVP, then zip and attach the logs so I can take a look?

I suspect you have tried this already, but I have my EPG set to update during the night & find in the morning I have to start the MVP & let it load & then turn it off & re-start it to get the updated EPG data to show on the MVP.

More details of my problem: when I said the TV Guide data only appears when running GB on my PC, the program is GBPVR.exe. If I run the newer GUI, GBPVRX2.exe, then the entire TV Guide grid simply displays "no details" in every grid space. This is what I see on the MVP too.

So the question is why does GBPVR.exe correctly see the TV Guide data that is being imported every night, yet the GBPVRX2.exe does not see the guide data?

Getting closer - I can smell it Smile

PS - as for logs, could you outline the steps of what to do? I tried to open one of the .logs and delete contents before choosing TV Guide on my MVP, but I guess the file was in use so access was denied. I'm sure the steps are simple, I've just not done it before...

Just restart the app (which will cause new new empty logs to be created), then view the TV Guide, then zip and attach the logs.

I think I've stumbled on to the cause: when I look at the TV Guide using GBPVR.exe, it shows me listings TWICE: the first group is listed with the stations icon/symbol (no channel #). The second group lists by channel number (no icon) - and this group is BLANK (no data).

I suspect that the TV Guide data exported by MceEpg2XmlTv.exe is giving me the first group of listings - the ones with the station icons and valid guide data. The second group - that is blank - maybe that is from the channel settings done with GB's Config.exe utility?

Maybe someone can outline how this whole TV Guide thing is supposed to work? My Tv Guide has not worked since I began using the XMLTV setting and MceEpg2XmlTv.exe as a replacement for the free EPG data from Zap2It, which is no longer available...

Its most likely because your channel names have changed as you've moved from zap2it to MceEpg, so your old channels are still there even though they've got no listings associated, along side your new channels that have listings.

The easiest cleanup is probably just to delete the gbpvr.db3 file (after backing it up), then run the config app and recreate your capture sources. After this your channel list will only consist of those new channels that have come in via your new EPG source.

That's the conclusion I came to while thinking about it more tonight - glad I'm on the right track. Why doesn't GB delete the channel lineup from Zap2It once I switched to another EPG source (XMLTV) ?

It depends how you changed EPG source. You should be deleting and recreating your capture source when you changed EPG source. I suspect you didnt do this.

How does one delete their existing EPG source using the CONFIG utility? All I did was change the setting from Zap2It to XMLTV, then enter the path to the XML guide file...
