I've done it on a Tungsten using Omniremote. It's pretty cool in that you can create a universal remote on your palm to control GBPVR and other things, however it does suck to have to use the stylus everytime you wanna change the channel.

I don't think he's talking about using the IR part of the Pocket PC. I think he wants to use WiFi. I believe you would need a wap interface to GBPVR in order for this to work. I was thinking of a similar setup for my rio receivers before I started using MVP's. The rio receiver software TRIO had a web interface that allowed you to control any receiver in your house. There was talk about creating a WAP interface as well. This would have allowed you to have a remote for any receiver wether you are in the line of sight or not, since it uses WiFi to communicate.

Right now there is a web inteface to GBPVR but only for scheduling, it does not allow you to control GBPVR.

on pocket pc you can get remote control software (as in for the pc generally not (like pc anywhere, but for a pda)). I don't see any reason why you couldn't remotely control GB-PVR from that...

Yep - you can do this. Get a PPC compatible version of VNC
here and install a VNC server on your GBPVR box.

the problem with VNC/PcAnywhere things is they send a lot of information which isnt needed, you want a quick program that requires little bandwidth; i believe girder has a pocket pc program which can run on an pc (i assume it runs over wifi, or bluetooth, probably wifi). its not free thou, but would be better to use than a PcAnywhere type of program (i had one, i cant remeber what it was called, running on my pocket pc (hp4150 so new) and had nothing but problems, to small etc. i think ive seen some free programs which you could use to send keystrokes to a computer via pocket pc (which you could probably use to send the keyboard commands to control gbpvr)

Xlobby has a cool PocketPC client that uses WiFi. Its music player uses WinAmp. I'd like to be able to use the PPC to remote control the streaming of music/videos from my server computer to my MVP. The only way I can do this now is to set up a Shoutcast server on my computer and point MVP to it as an Internet Radio Station - not very elegant.

Thanks a lot.
Here are very interesting ideas!!

but first: I don´t need a pur remote program like omniremote ..., I want to remote the music/video play (not TV) via wlan ! and to the mediamvp !
I don´t know, how the mediamvp works.
Which program need can I remote on the GBPVR-Server ? Is every program good, that remote media player or others?
Girder or netremote is a good idea, too, but look at my question above.

I've managed to get omniremote on my palm to control my tv, dvd etc. Everything that is except the media MVP. Is it even possible or do I have to break down and actually get a real universal remote?

If it is possible, I would appreciate any tips from anyone who has succeeded.

Thanks

You might also want to take a look at Sailing software's application called "Clicker" which will allow you to script whatever it is you want to do. It will work with Bluetooth and Wifi on your cell phone or pocketpc. The scripting is pretty easy and if you look at the forums others have used this for the MediaPortal software so porting the basic functionality should be real easy. Cool thing is if you have a compatible cell phone with Bluetooth and a bluetooth dongle you can use your phone to control GBPVR. I have been wanting to take some time and play with this but unfortunately I haven't been able to.

I am sure that there are plenty of others out there that are interested in doing something with this. It is not free but not expensive either. $24 bucksSmile

Supported device list, connectivity, etc: http://www.salling.com/Clicker/windows/devices.php

FYI:
I read an article where a user had setup his media system so that when his phone came within range it would tell him how long he was away, what shows were captured and ready for playback. While in proximity his media center would announce when shows would start recording and when they were finished etc. And since this can also work with phone events if you get a phone call while within range it can use this event to pause whatever it is you are doing on the media center !!

Something to consider for the geekiest of the media geeks Smile
