i am about to ditch my epia me6000/mythtv setup for an MVP/gbpvr setup. i have two questions:

1) will the commercial skipping functioanlity be available on the MVP interface?
the 0.22 changelog states:
- Now able to use comskip for automatic detection of commercials.....During playback you can press "0" followed by the skip forward or back keys to move between the detected commercial break points.

2) has anyone tried adding the MVP spdif port and feeding gbpvr output to a receiver with digital inputs?

Yes, the commercial skip works on the MVP.

Sub,
How do I enable the commercial skip ?
I read a lot about it in the forum, but I don't find how to use it.

I live in the Netherlands, maybe that's why it's not working with me ;-)

I use the 227 version of GB-PVR and a Media MVP.
Regards,
Edwin

You need to put comskip.ini and comskip.exe in your gbpvr directory.

Be sure to edit the ini to make verbose to 10 and change the frame rate.

It will then run it on the tv show after it is recorded. If you notice the chp file is 0 bytes after comskip is complete then it did not detect any commercials. Then you can tweak the ini. You can send the log to jere if you determine where the commercials are using virtual dub and send him the log as well.

Hi Jorm,
thanx for the reply. I just tested it with a programme, but the CHP file stays 0 bytes.

What do I need to change in the frame rate ? I have an extensive log file, but can't figure it out.
I need to import the log file in virtual dub ? Is there a howto or something I can use to get this commercial skip working ? [Image: tounge.gif]

Hey Edwin10,

with comskip there is a file called comskip.ini. This file resides in the same directory as comskip and contains setup information. In the comskip.ini file is a entry for framerate (cannot remember the correct name the minute) but it currently defaults, i think, to 29.97. This is the framerate for NTSC TV programmes.

In Europe, it is 25 for PAL systems. Change this line to be 25 to be compatible with your setup.

Also, best bet is to ask questions about commercial skipping in the developer section as Jere_Jones monnitors that thread and pops in to answer questions.

The .chp file is used with videoredo or something like that, and as for virtual_dub. You do not load in the log file. You load in the actually .mpg file and check the commercial frame points outputed in the .txt file.

And you need virtual_dub mod (again look in the commercial detection thread for this). Virtual_dub itself cannot directly read .mpg files.

Cheers,
Colin.
