Hi JW,

This is along shot I guess, but sometimes I run MW on my recordings drive, then if I archive, the show moves and I have to run MW again in the new location. In addition to that I now have two entries for the one show, one to an empty location on recordings, one to the new Archived dir.

Would it possible to have MW do a scan (scheduled automatically if possible) and remove "dead" entries and update moved ones?

Or move them directly in the MW-gui, maybe??

I have been trying to come up with something to incorporate the recordings automatically into moviewiz. I have pondered a few ideas, but have not settled on one yet.

In your scenario, if I found a movie in the db, that did not exist at that location on the drive, how could I determine if the movie had been deleted, or simply moved to another location?

This might work...

1. Provide a MovieWizManager function to allow user to create a list of folders which can be used to store movies.

2. Periodically (scheduled or via a button) check if each movie in the db still exists - if it does, then fine - if it don't, then try to find it in any of the location(s) specified in the folder list - if it's found, then change db to point to new location - if not found, then delete it from the db.

File renames look like a problem (as they are already) - maybe the file system allocates a hidden identifier to a new file which stays with it after a rename or move (sort of thing you or I would do if we were designing a filesystemWink) - does anyone know if this is the case?

Another problem might be if anyone was daft enough (like me) to have a bunch of different files with the same name (the 01 - Intro.mpg stuff) in the db.

My suggestion would be that your automatic scan could search multiple drives in the source drive list (Recordings, Archive1, Archive 2) and once found delete only the one that wasn't prefixed by the path that has the actual mpg in it. At present only one drive at a time is scanned, but I'm sure this could be made to scan all in a list.

How about that? (Pretty much what ACTMS says, but less clear :-) )

Ok, I've added this to my list of things to do.
