I've been able to repeat this and perhaps it is by design, but PVRX2 wont start when Archiving is in progress?

What I did was go into PVRX2, start archiving 2 shows, (from XRecord) then exited PVRX2. After that I couldn't go back in.

I can start the old GPPVR interface but PVRX2 won't start

I have no idea what "Archiving" is, and what it does. This sounds more like a plugin question to me. I'm guessing if you disable that plugin it'll start fine.

The last lines in your logs related to xrecord, so this backs up what I've said above.

Hi ,

This post was moved from Support as sub notes it is likely plugin related. Seems like an odd but repeatable glitch with PVRX2 after using Xrecords archive function.

Ta,

The archive feature in XRecord runs as a temporary low priority background thread. If you exit gbpvr while this thread/archive is running, does the archive eventually complete successfully and then allow you to restart PVRX2? Does that thread die a miserable death and leave archive unfinished and never allow PVRX2 to restart?

Would waiting for the archiving thread to end at the point where gbpvr is deactivating XRecord during exit make sense or would that be too long? I've only ever used XRecord archiving to fix bugs using a 10 second clip so I have no idea how fast/slow it runs on real clips. Hmm, the screen saver also calls deactivate so this strategy may not work.

Yes it does complete successfully, no problems there. I thought it called a batch or something and just ran o/s of GBPVR, but perhaps not?

Nope, archive seems to work OK.

Well, "too long" is relative but:
  • I don't transcode as I have an MVP and most of my mpg files are in the 5GB~6GB range (some 4GB, some 7GB) for a 2 hr show.
  • I archive to a Slug (NSLU2) network drive, which actually takes a Looong time.
  • I often archive 2 or 3 at a time.
All this ends up taking GBPVR a long time to complete the Archive and I can't use PVRX2 in the meantime.

Cheers

I took a look today. When xrecord's archiving is in progress and you exit pvrx2, you can still see pvrx2.exe in the task manager process list even though the pvrx2 window is gone. When the archive eventually finishes, pvrx2.exe disappears from the process list.

Only sub knows but it appears pvrx2 does a search for an already running pvrx2 and if one is found that window is brought to the foreground and the new pvrx2 exits. Maybe sub can tell us how to avoid this test or how to change XRecord archiving to fool this test.

If you've started a thread for this processing then you've probably forgot to set its background property to true. A .net application will not terminate until all its non-background threads complete.
