Hi all

I am hoping someone can help me tweak my settings a bit for the television ratios displayed in live tv.

I am using Nvidia pure platinum as my decoder and have it set to raw/amorphic.
I have a widescreen lcd television and have GBPVR set to display in 16:9, although it doesn't seem to make a blind bit of difference what I set it on.

I get channels displayed in all sorts of formats 4:3, 16:9, and even some others I dont know the name of.

I have searched through the nvidia config, added the tweak registry tool, even tried using other decoders and it doesnt change a thing.

I have set GBPVR to display 4:3 and 16:9 and there is no difference.

Is there a setting somewhere I have missed?

Hopefully someone can shed some light on it for me, it is driving me nuts.

P.S I use Nvidia for my dvds and movies as well and they display perfectly once I cycled through with F7 to fill, however the television when I use F7 to cycle through the modes never has a screen where there arent black bars and if I make it as large as I can, when I go to the channels which did display correctly they are overscanned.

Thanks

you can adjust your config file to make it suit your tv
back up your config file first

here is what mine looks like you can compare it to yours
<HorizontalZoom>1.1</HorizontalZoom>
<HorizontalOffset>0</HorizontalOffset>
<VerticalZoom>1.1</VerticalZoom>
<VerticalOffset>0</VerticalOffset>
<!-- overscan control (border size in pixels) -->
<OverScanBorderX1>0</OverScanBorderX1>
<OverScanBorderY1>0</OverScanBorderY1>
<OverScanBorderX2>0</OverScanBorderX2>
<OverScanBorderY2>0</OverScanBorderY2>
<OverScanVideoAlso>true</OverScanVideoAlso>
<!-- Aspect Ratio settings -->
<TvShape>16x9</TvShape>
<AspectRatioModes>
<AspectRatioMode name="Auto" ratio="0,0,0,0" />
<AspectRatioMode name="Fill" ratio="0,0,1,1" />
<AspectRatioMode name="LetterBox" ratio="0,0.125,1,0.875" />
<AspectRatioMode name="Remove LetterBox" ratio="0,-0.125,1,1.125" />
<AspectRatioMode name="Center Cut" ratio="-0.05,-0.17,1.04,1.17" />
<AspectRatioMode name="PillarBox" ratio="0.08,0,0.92,1" />
<AspectRatioMode name="Custom" ratio="0,-0.1,1,1.1" />

<AspectRatioMode name="Custom" ratio="0,-0.1,1,1.1" /> this is my added line i have a crt widescreen different than your but you get the idea

that is the section of the config file that tells gbpvr how it should look on your tv

What capture device are you using?

Post a screenshot and I'll take a look.

Thanks.

I am using digital satellite as my source and I appreciate TV 3 is stuffed but other channels including channel 6 and stratos etc are displayed incorrectly as well.
I have changed from Nvidia to my system default which I think uses the ati ccc settings?
I altered my config file but it didn't have any effect.

Sorry for the late reply, I never received an email or perhaps it was stored as spam.
Thanks for the reply.

Hi Sub.
Thanks for the reply. I have ditched Nvidia so a screen shot wont help but thanks a lot anyways.
I am using a Hauppauge HVR3000 which has been rediculously hard to set up so far.

Cheers

now that you have changed to system default if the nvidia decoder is still installed it will be using it as it should be
switch to vmr custom for testing and see if the nvidia icon comes up(only when playing mpeg video in task bar by clock )

also can you post your specs for your computer aswell as the tv and what connection to the tv

A screenshot will help. It'll give us an indication of what you're seeing.

So far you've just told us you've got black bars, which doesnt tell us very much. There is lots of situations where you should see black bars. A screenshot would help.

Alright then but the screens differ. It is as if the settings are not being installed.
TV 4 displays as letterbox ie in the middle of the screen, whilst tv1 and 2 are full screen and tv6 has bars on the sides like it is 4:3 and then there are other times when it displays bars at the top and bottom.
It doesn't seem to be constant.

First, press F7 until you're on the 'Auto' aspect ratio. Set the TV Shape to 16:9, and make sure the video decoder is set to something other than 'system default'.

There is a well known problem with the way the broadcasters cope with old 4:3 video when transmitting as 16:9, which can result in black bars on all four sides. This is particularly relevent to C4 and TV6, which carry a large amount of 4:3 video. The same thing happens with real Freeview set top boxes.

The best thing to do is focus on one situation, and try to understand exactly what is happening, rather than trying a blur of different settings and channels. Make sure you're using the auto mode, and your tv shape is set to 16:9, then view a channel that is causing a specific problem, zip and attach your PVRX2.exe.log and PVRX2.exe-native.log, and post a description of what you see, and ideally a screen shot - from this I should be able to give you an explanation.
