After giving up on the software supplied by Hauppauge I am trying to use GB-PVR for the first time but have hit a problem with the EPG.

If I have more than 4 or 5 channels mapped, the PC crashes every time the EPG update runs. This is both on the automatic overnight run and also on manual updates. I have tried clearing the EPG and deleting and re-installing GBPVR but these makes no difference.

Diagnostic are rather scarce but following entry appears in the system log of the PC:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x100000d1 (0x00000060, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xf78cb4df).
If there are a small number of channels mapped (3 or 4) everything seems to work OK.

The PC seems to crash towards the end of the EPG update cycle - perhaps even after all channels have been scanned. I get various EPG related files created in the output directory but GBPVR's EPG itself is not updated.

I am using a (new) NOVA-T 500 PCI card running under XP. This card has two tuners and I have tried various options such as different versions of the drivers and only using one tuner. The card itself seems work fine. Apart from the useability of the Hauppauge software I had no real problems with recordings or the EPG.

I have tried GBPVR versions 1.1.5 and 1.016. I have also tried the Hauppage drivers supplied with versions 3.4 and 4.0 of WinTV. I downloaded the .NET and runtime libraries from MS over the last two or three weeks - so they are fairly up to date. The PC itself is a Jetway mini-itx system based on a VIA 2Ghz chipset.

The only other strange thing is that no radio stations appear in the channel listing. I am not sure if this is normal for GBPVR? My local transmitter is Sandy Heath in the UK.

Any suggestions welcome.

GB-PVR doesn't currently do DVB radio.

I had vaguely similar problems with a Gigabyte motherboard with onboard Nvidia graphics. A BIOS update fixed it (eventually).

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion about upgrading the BIOS.

I gave this a try and also did a format of C: and a complete Windows re-install. To try an ensure that I am not getting a conflict with other software such as the virus scan, I only re-installed the critical updates from MS, motherboard drivers and the very latest Hauppuage drivers.

Unfortunately, same problem - PC crashes every time.

Could someone suggest a tool that puts the TV card through some sort of test?

Regards

If the pc crashes, it's a hardware or a driver problem.

A few ideas to try:-

moving tuner to a different pci slot:
Download and install "PCI latency tool". set the latency for the 2 Nova-t devices to 64 or 96. Nova-t tuners appears as "VIA Rev 5 or later.." devices.
disable any unused devices (serial 1+2, parallel, firewire etc) in BIOS
remove any addon hard disks, cd drives and usb devices and try again. (in case power supply is not up to the task).

Thanks for the suggestion but the PC still crashes.

Tried disabling various peripherals and changing latency times as suggested.

I also sent the card back to Hauppauge. *Very* impressive same day turn around but problem still occurs on the new card.

I have also tried the new card on another mini-itx board. This time it was on a 1 GHz EPIA motherboard. Same problem but this and the Jetway both use VIA chipsets.

So, I think I can rule out hardware problems. Looks very much like a driver issue.

Looking at some other sites there seems to be some USB related problems with these Hauppage PCI cards. Still trying to find exactly what though.

Reproduce the problem then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Is your BDA multiplexer set to Cyberlink or Intervideo? (Misc tab in the config) I found the DBT EPG would only work in DVR-MS mode. If this is the case and you need to record in MPEG then you could switch to the XMLTV epg.

Thanks - please find logs attached.

Sorry for the delay but the DC/DC board in the PC case developed a fault and I had to wait for a replacement :-(

This run is with the Microsoft KB925922 patch installed. I installed the patch only because the article in the MS knowledge based discussed an error message that is much the same as the one I was getting with GBPVR.

It does not fix the problem with the EPG but the patch does stop the PC from crashing. After trying to update the EPG, Windows displaying a dialog stating that "GB-PVR Configuration has produced an error and needs to close". I get the option to send the report off to MS. Pressing "Don't Send" on this dialog zaps the Config tool.

To start the run, I cleaned out the GBPVR's logs, rebooted the PC and ran up Config. I then emptied the EPG and pressed the Update EPG button. After scanning a number channels, Windows produced the above error message.

Regards

Many thanks for the suggestion. I have tried changing a number of options but to no avail.
