Anyone come up with a plugin that allows choosing a different skin per MVP? The MVPMC dongle allows to control different aspect ration per MVP, but what about skin. The skin you would want to use on a large 16x9 is not the same skin I would want to use on the other 12" 4x3 TV.

Thanks,
Greg

The aspect setting for the MVP doesn't control the OSD skins, it is for video. The television zoom is more important in how the skin displays.

I think Greg's point is that he would like to use different skins for different sized TV's (irrespective of the aspect). For instance, it would be nice to use something like Jaggy's high vis skin on my 14" portable in the kitchen, while staying with the standard blue skin on the 28" crt in the lounge.

I got that point, but there is a lot of confusion where people think the non-video graphics change. There is really nothing special a skin designer can do for wide screen other than making thing look better zoomed, but that experience will change based on the television.

The next generation of HD media extenders typically do allow for 720p frames with near 1280 pixel width so that is when I expect to see the big changes for skins.

I got that bit Martin, but the reason I (and I suspect Greg) would like to be able to have a different skin per MVP might be better explained by considering the TV Guide... On my 14" I use Jaggy's skin set at 4 rows of guide - I just can't read it at the standard blue skin's 7 guide rows. On the 28", I can read the 7 rows no problem and it looks more elegant than the 4 rows.

However, having thought about it, I can see that the PVR/dongle couldn't do it on its own - it would need a bit of help from GB-PVR.

The widescreen was just an example. It basically what ACTCMS said. I would like to choose different skins for different TV's. I also have a 14" in the bedroom on MVP and the other MVP is in the livingroom on a much larger TV. I'd like to use a high vis skin for the small TV and another for the larger TVs.

Also, as was said, I don't expect this to be a dongle thing at all. We would need something like MvpScreenPosition and MvpTrayIcon but that tracks different skins by MAC address. This would have to be done on the MVP server side.

Thinking about it. Not sure how easy that would be. The MVP servers act like a pool. I would need to dedicate MVP server instances to specific MVPs. The "MVP start plugins on startup" would be really important here too I would assume.

Thanks,
Greg

sub has obviously thought about about this at sometime - from config.xml

Unfortunately its not as easy as it sounds. The plugins and screens have already loaded their skin details long before the MVP connects. It would not be an easy change to defer the skin loading until after the MVP actually connects.
