Hello all -

Now that I've had a while to stew, I'm considering transitioning my GBPVR machine to ATSC tuners. Any recommended cards out there? Ones that work best with GBPVR. Current setup uses an nvidia fx5200 video card and a PVR500 MCE tuner card.

I see on the wiki that these cards are recommended:

* Fusion HDTV Gold-T,Fusion HDTV5 Lite
* Hauppauge HVR-1600 (QAM, OTA, analog)
* Hauppauge HVR-1800 (OTA, analog)
* AverMedia M780
* SiliconDust HdHomeRun
* ...and probably many others, but they havn't been tested yet

Any help for narrowing it down? I think ideally I'd like to have 2 identical cards....

I have recommended HDHomeRun on several occasions, most recently here.
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=31396

It has dual tuners (either of which can be used for ATSC or QAM) and is 100 percent stable. My only reservation is that there is not a whole lot of help setting it up in this forum, and it takes a minor modification of the bda.ini file in order for it to appear in the GB-PVR device list. There are instructions on the Silicondust forum, though I am not sure they are entirely complete.

I followed the instructions on the Silicondust forum and with the latest firmware it automatically downloaded and installed, it was pretty simple to install in GBPVR.

My HDHomeRun quit working and I have to say the customer service at Silicondust is top notch (responded on Thanksgiving day no less to help me out).

The dual tuners and capability to use it on any PC in your home over ethernet (maybe wireless, haven't tried that yet) is what really drew me to it.
MY PVR:

I see that the instructions have recently been updated to include the changes in channel mapping with the newer firmware versions of HDHomeRun. So now they look pretty good to me too, and are simpler than the earlier versions. It should be no problem to set up.

I have the M780 which is great if you need a analog/hardware tuner, It has good tuner for increased reception and a high quality mpeg encoder. I would like to get a HDHomerun but they are two expensive for me at the moment.

I'm about to install a 1600 so I'll let you know what I think of it. I wanted to go with the hdhomerun but it was a little out of the price range for the person buying me the xmas present. I think the 1800 will do QAM now (v1.1.5+).
