I have had an issue with playlists for some time and last night decided to work on it to see what is happening. First, I upgraded PVRX2 to 1.1.5.

My music files are stored on a NAS drive and the drive is available by name and mapped (\\NASdrive and XSmile.

In my playlist the music files are something like:
\\NASdrive\music\christmas\various artists\Holly and the Ivy.mp3

If I navigate to the folder in the Music Library, PVRX2 will play the song with no problem.

If I attempt to play the playlist, I get nothing.

I don't have the log file handy, but I noticed a few things in the log file that looked interesting.

1. It appears that the playlist is parsed without error. I has a message about adding the songs to some internal list. The filenames in the list are labelled something like: \\\\NASdrive\\music\\christmas...... Is the extra "\" an escape for the parser? Is this normal?

2. Once the list is parsed, the log file has an entry for each song in the list with a message that the song is complete and it is moving to the next song.

Any ideas on how to make playlists work? I don't think that I have had them work since a couple of revs ago.

Thanks,
Mike

Are you talking about the built in Music Library screen? I dont remember there being any support for playlists. Or are you talking about using the 'Play All' button?

Ummm.... I *think* I remember this working a few revs ago. Besides, the pvrx2.exe.log file shows that it is parsing the playlist file.

I must be going crazy because I just checked the Wiki and see there is no reference to playlists there in the default music player.

Okay, then is there any chance that using a playlist can be added in the future??? Smile

BTW.... the playlist is in m3u format.

WMP11 can save playlists easily in this format.

I would like this feature as a way to shuffle across multiple albums. To me it is something like a makeshift music channel that plays a variety of songs, not just the ones on a particular album.

Thanks,
Mike

Can you post one of your .m3u files so I can look at it?

You might be interested in this patch: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...ostcount=6

If you press Play on a directory contain mutilple files or even multiple subdirectories then it'll auto queue all the nested files, and shuffle the playback order.

I'll have to get it later tonight from the home system. I'd be happy to upload a snippet.

I'll try that patch tonight. It is quite possibly very very close to what I'd like.

The thing I don't like about the playlist is that in order to get a different song order, I have to shuffle the list in WMP and save it out again.

Thanks!

Sub,
I have a similar problem to mrayle's posting at the top of this thread, in that I can't play m3u playlists. But it's even a bit stranger than that.
My music library directory is F:\My Music. Attached is a snapshot of part of the directory structure. At the top-level, directly in \My Music I put 4 m3u files, as shown. I also put the same 4 m3u files in a folder one down,
\My Music\My Playlists.
If I navigate into \My Music I cannot play any of those 4 playlists. I.e., if I select any of them and then hit Play or OK on the remote, nothing happens.
Now it gets more weird: If I navagate into the folder
\My Music\My Playlists and try to play any of the 4 playlists, one plays, but what always plays is the fourth one in the list! I.e., Harry Chapin.m3u plays even if I've selected Beatles.m3u.
Attached are all the log files, zipped. [In case there is some confusion in looking at the logs, I use PVRX2. I couldn't find any instructions on how to make gbpvr start PVRX2 for each of the MVPs, so I copied PVRX2.exe to GBPVR.exe. {Was there something better or smarter I should have done?}]

Thanks in advance for looking at this.

Cheers .... Bob
