Your sure it's not just a 4:3 programme being shown on 16:9 broadcast?

It happens a lot in NZ with freeview, as they broadcast in 16:9. On the news some of the clips they use for sports news are 4:3, so they jump from full screen to a large border all around.

What video decoder are you using? If it's Nvidia, then change the aspect ratio to be raw / anamorphic (i think)

Cheers

thanks for reponse..

no - they look ok when using freeview with the built in tv tuner...

it's def something in the ATI driver - am using latest catalyst with a X1650...

might try downgrading...

getting stranger.

moved some recordings (before the rebuild) into the video library (still in mpg format) and seems intermittent when playing them - sometimes recording A would play with borders on the outside, try recording B and it would be full screen, then try A again and it might play full screen!

the GBPVR overlay size at the bottom of the screen is constant and stretches right across, which leads me to think it's vga driver or GBPVR...

I dont know if this is the cause of your problem here, but you need to have video decoder set to something other than 'system default' for aspect ratio control to work correctly.

Also press F7 a few times to make sure you're using the 'auto' aspect ratio mode.

thanks for that, sub.

have specified the MPV decoder. when do i press F7, when mpg is running?

i did take a backup before formatting - might restore it, if above doesn't work...

Think you'll find sky sports news output is always 4:3 ratio and your set top box or tv streches the picture to widescreen.
