I have most of my channels available in HD. For example, channels 6 and 12 are on clear QAM channel 94. They are also on channel 125, along with many others, as SD.

Sometimes an HD QAM channel will drop out for a few hours. If I have the EPG set up to tune the HD channel, nothing shows.

Is there a way I can point channel 6 to both the HD and the SD channel, with a preference for HD? If not, then can I link both the HD and SD to the same EPG channel, so either shows the current show information?

I suppose I could make a "second" tuner pointed tot he same tuner, and populate it with the SD channels. Would that work? Of course, then I would have to make a thirs, HD duplicate, thrid in line, so both live and recorded will prefer the HD version.

Is that the best way? Or can I get second listing in EPG so both show up and I manually select which to watch (does not help when HD dies during a recording).

if you cant rely on the HD version of the channel being available, then I wouldnt bother mapping it. GB-PVR is never going to know when it is available or not and you'll just end up with empty failed recordings if you schedule recordings when this channel is down.

If your HD version was always available then I'd suggest not even bothering with the SD version, since the tuner is only going to be used for one at a time and if you prefer HD, then its always going to use the HD version and SD version would never be used...

The majority of the time, HD is available. However, this is the second time in the past month that a channel has dropped out. HD is so much better.

So you are saying that even though the channel drops out (I get teh black box indicating no signal), GBPVR would not drop down to the second tuner copy?

Thanks

Correct. GB-PVR would have no idea, and you'd just get a empty file.
