Remote Control Distance 6ft?

I just bought new equipment and built an HTPC with an MVP. Didn't notice until I was relaxing trying to use the MVP from my couch that it only responds well to the remote at less than 6ft. I've tried 2 different remotes each with new batteries and the same result. Also it seems that the angle must be almost straight on (it's not very responsive from the side.)

Unfortunately, this is a show stopper for my wife.

Anyone else experience this 6ft limit, or do I have a bad MVP?

FYI - I've had two MVPs for two years and I just checked that both of them work fine up to my maximum distance of 20+ feet away.

I Have three MVPs of different age, and have pushed GBPVR and several MVPs on friends as well

None with the bad experience you describe. On the contrary, I find the MVPs to be among the better equipment to recieve signals.

In my living room, it's even in a cabinet behind what could best be described as white loudspeaker linen (all my AV-stuff is in there - very high WAF, and I get to put in there whatever I want :-) ).

The Logitech Harmony 885, the big MVP remote and even the small remote from Hauppauge PVR-350 all shoots right through to a nice reception from my normal 3,5 meters (10-12 ft). It goes well beyond that.

So you probably have a bad one. Maybe its worth taking a screwdriver and look to see if the reciever is bent away from the front. If you have warranty - definitely get it replaced.

One other thing to consider: are you using compact fluorescent lights in the room, and do you have the problem when the lights are off?

Hey I just wanted to thank everyone for the feed back. Turns out the unit was defective and they replaced it. The new one is working great and I'm really happy with it.
