I recently upgraded my GBPVR box so I could watch ATSC with timeshifting - I had this problem before the upgrade and thought that I was hardware limited. Fresh install of Windows XP Pro and GBPRV (hardware specs in my siggy).

I go into live tv either via the Live TV menu item or via the tv guide and it will play fine, but when I pause it sometimes it won't resume. The times that it does start playing, if I pause it again, it then it won't resume. The timer at the top of the screen will start incrementing, but the show will stay frozen.

It will exit to the menu just fine, so it's not like the PC is locked up or anything.

I'm recording them as .ts files and have tried DVR-MS format and had the same result.

Pausing works fine for playback of already recorded ATSC files, it's just when I'm watching live TV that I have the problem.

Any tips, ideas, suggestions?

Thanks!

I wouldnt expect to be able to do live tv in timeshift mode when you're recording .ts files, but if you reproduce the problem with the DVR-MS Mux, then post the logs, I'll take a look.

I changed to dvr-ms and reproduced the problem. Logs attached. Also GBPVR 1.1.5

Sorry, I dont know. There is nothing obvious in the logs.

I'd try a different combination of audio/video decoder to see if it helps though.

Update:
Still not able to timeshift using .ts. So far, .ts has given me the best quality of playback. I was able to get it working using the ati and cyberlink muxes as .mpg but got a lot of motion blur and an occasional horizontal line that runs up the screen.

Since I'm wanting to timeshift (American) football, the motion blur is quite annoying and unacceptable (I'd be better off recording it on my pvr150 as analog). As a temporary workaround, I basically record the game, then spawn zoom player and playback with that - it's a really kludgy workaround, and I had to get hipmouse working so I could open the file with the remote. It'll pause and playback just fine while the show is being recorded - it sometimes won't "skip ahead" if I'm behind live tv, but I think that's because it's beyond how much it thinks it's got recorded.

Like I said, it's a workaround, and I'm not happy about it Sad I want this awesome GBPVR software to be able to timeshift ATSC w/o loss of quality.

Anyway, what are other ATSC users doing to be able to timeshift HD? Am I just going to have to accept the motion blur using .mpg the way it is?

I cant think of any reason you'd get motion blur using a .mpg mux. Muxes dont make that sort visual difference to the picture. Motion blur is really a playback issues, and more relates to the decoding/rendering performance.

The majority of ATSC users use the DVR-MS mux and are able to timeshift without any issues. The only reason I'm aware of that some people stay away from the .mpg muxes is because sometimes they lockup midway through the recording with HD channels.

Very few people use the TS mux option. Its very limited, you cant timeshift etc.

Okay, I'll do some more testing with dvr-ms. Thanks for the input, Sub.

I use the ATI mux because I could not get reliable recording with the Cyberlink mux. I have not tried the ts mux do to the fact you can not timeshift. I also have not used the dvr-ms mux because you can not use it on a client. I have had pretty good results using the ATI mux and ATI mpeg decoder. I am have an ATI1600pro video card in FSE mode.

I also occasionally have the same problem in Time Shifting mode, but it appears that skip forward or skip reverse will always clear up the problem, so it hasn't been a big deal to me. If pause/resume does not work, then I just skip reverse 10 seconds. I record in DVR-MS (HD ATSC running at 1920 x 1080 resolution), haven't tried TS files.
