I was just wondering whether the following could be done:

- after adding a few movies via the 'Add Content' tab, I find it a bit tedious to locate the added movies via the 'Manage Content' tab, especially when dealing with a few hundred entries. I'd like to see another tab, like 'New Content' or something, to facilitate adding content.

- I usually don't keep a recording as is but rather cut out ads and stuff before encoding as h.264. Drawback is, while the description of the recording is still there (I think it's in gbpvr.db3), Movie Wizard doesn't find it. Could MV be configured to look into gbpvr's database as well ?

That's all for today, just to keep you busy, JV ! Wink

This is a good idea. Not sure about another tab, but I may add option to change sort order by most recently added date or something. I've added it to the TODO list.

If the movie filename remains the same, moviewiz should be able to find it. When you do a Search/Import recordings, moviewiz does actually search the gbpvr.db3 database for new entries.

Could you provide a little more info on how you cut the ads and re-encode it? Your process may either move the file or change its name without updating the gbpvr database, so that is why moviewiz cannot find it.

Sure - process is as follows:
I demux and cut recordings on my desktop PC (not my HTPC). After encoding, files are put on my fileserver. Finally I import into MovieWiz (checkbox set to 'Hard Drive').
During this process filenames change slightly, e.g. from 'Panic Room_20070908_22250040.ts' to 'Panic Room.mp4'.
So, file location and name are changed ... still I was wondering whether MV somehow could make use of the information available in gbpvr.db3.

Do you manually change the name, or does a program/batch file do that for you?

Both Big Grin
I usually cut out time and date from the filename, extension gets assigned automagically.

Ok, this may work, not sure...

Do not manually rename your file. In moviewiz config, enter the server directories as Archive Locations on the Plugin Settings tab.
  • Remove commercials
  • Re-encode to .mp4
  • Archive to your server
  • Import Recordings into movie wiz
Movewiz should find the archived (re-encoded) version in the new directory. The filename will be the same, but moviewiz will most likely adjust the title to something very close to what you have done manually.

Didn't work ...
Original filename was 'Flucht ins 23. Jahrhundert_20080113_02100430.ts' (after reencoding changed to Flucht ins 23. Jahrhundert_20080113_02100430.mp4).
Importing this movie into MV yields no hit. The movie is still in GBPVR's database.
Any ideas ?

Ok, I simulated same process on my machine as follows:
  • Copied and renamed an existing movie as 'Flucht ins 23. Jahrhundert_20080113_02100430.ts'
  • Imported into MovieWiz
  • Manually changed extension to .mp4 and moved into new (archive) directory
  • Ran 'Sync Archived' from the Manage Content tab.
It detected that the .ts movie did not exist, scanned the archive directories, found the moved movie (with the new extension) and updated the database appropriately.

My guess is that I must have some fixes in my version that have not been released yet. I am probably a couple weeks away from releasing next version, so hang in there, it will work eventually...

I didn't do exactly as you did - hadn't imported the recording into MW before reencoding. Just did a 'local lookup' after importing.

Interestingly enough, there's no button 'Sync Archived' here - maybe it's not integrated into the public release yet ?!

Another minor issue I stumbled across: when trying to pick a few files in a directory, MW looks for all the files in the directory regardless of tickmark set or not. Can you reproduce this behavior ?

Actually, that is the way it is supposed to work. The tick marks are so you can 'Delete Checked' so they won't be loaded. Any files left in the list will be imported.
