I know there are several other utilities and plugins that preform similarly to the new script that I wrote, but I needed something that filled a few specific needs and this script ended up fitting the bill.

Name: convert2dvd-win32.bat
Version: 0.3.0
Discription: Authors an A/V file onto a DVD. The script should be compatible with nearly any file mplayer can play.

I wanted to be able to drag-n-drop an a/v file onto a script and have it burn straight to dvd without having to worry about titling, menuing, etc. The finish product is a dvd that starts playing when placed into a player.

I think I've got most of the kinks worked out, but I would appreciate anyone willing to test it and provide feedback. I would like to add surround sound auto-detection and conversion, if I can figure out how to identify it with mplayer.

Enjoy,

I like this idea a lot. No configuration... Great!

An idea: Make it gather shows using the Transcode menu in Video Library (not just for Transcoding you know!) and defer the DV authoring until the queue is filled to write to DVD...

An example would be: I have a whole whack of 5 minute shows for my daughter. It would be great to add them into a queue, and when it is filled with 4.7 GB, to make the dvd...

Frank,

I'm pleased to hear you like the objective of this script and appreciate your feature request. I'll definitely keep your request in mind. At present, I would like to focus on the core functionality of the script (I don't have a ton of time), but will consider multi-file directory queuing in the future.

Respectfully,

Gary

Zehd,

Doesn't ShowBurner already do this?

I've added some additional checking in version 0.3.3 of convert2dvd to determine the video format, aspect ratio, video bitrate, ac3 audio, and 5.1 surround sound in the source audio/video file. This allows convert2dvd to maximize the dvd output format and include 5.1 surround sound, if available in the source audio/video file.

I would like to include DTS 5.1 surround sound checking, but I don't have the hardware equipment for testing and am unsure of the optimal way to process it with the windows compiled mencoder binary (there does not appear to be a copy of the libdts codec for windows, but rather defaults to the ffdts codec).

I've noticed a few views of this thread, but not much feedback (other than zehd). Does anyone think there is much use for it, here?

Should I not bother developing it any further?

Respectfully,

I really didn't get much feedback from my first offerings. A year or two after, I was informed by one of my users, that I had pulled a program that was very much used, and 'where'd it go?'. He signed up and posted just the one message... I bet there are many many lurkers that are interested...

Personally, I haven't worked much with showburner BECAUSE of the options and setup and choices, and menus and bells and whistles...

I like your idea, but I have a bunch of 5 minute shows that I want to complie, but I don't need menus....

I can assemble the videos with VideoRedo...
