I have a music collection of roughly 8,000 songs. i have had parts of it since the days when napster was originally out. my dilemna is that the majority of it does not have id3 tags at all so using plugins like music library are a no-no. Also, the directory structure is divided by artist with no subdirectories for albums. Is it worth it to start from the beginning and work my way through taggig every thing correctly? If the answer is yes, does anyone have any utility progams that make the tagging faster? i would really appreciate any ideas for making it go more smoothly. i figure i can tag 200 songs a night and be done in not so long.

Also, I do not know how many of you are familiar with Slimm server for streaming music, but i was wondering if anyone knows how i can setup gb-pvr to stream from Slimm server ( a friend would love to stream my collection via Slimm ). If this would require a plugin, i would work on developing it if anyone is interested.

Thank you for any input you wonderful people can provide. Have a great week!

If you have time to put songs into album folders under your artist folders, MP3Tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ ) can read the directory structure & tag all your MP3s. I use it all the time on new files.

I've been doing the same thing with mp3tag. I've completed about 2000 songs so far. Most of my were in album folders inside artist folders which made it a little easier. mp3tag is very easy to use and you can do manual lookups for each album as you tag them. It will also rename the files to a standard format based on your tags. It also allows you to sort by any column and to select a group of songs from one album and tag them as a group. Be careful if you don't have all the tracks in the correct order you'll end up with the wrong titles.

I highly recommend this program. I tried using mediamonkey before and it was much harder to use, at least for me.
